Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of events and activities around the Carson City region to help the next three days breeze by. On Friday, Muscle Powered will host a morning walk at the Carson City Multi-Use Path at 8 a.m. And there's coin press demonstrations at the Nevada State Museum.

The Nevada State Railroad Museum steamed up the Fourth of July festivities in Carson City on Friday.

Heading into the Independence Day holiday weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region to keep the next three days jam-packed with excitement.

The Fourth of July will be colored with parades, barbecues, carnivals, concerts and plenty of fireworks around Carson City, Carson Valley, Lake Tahoe and Virginia City.

The Nevada State Museum in Carson City will be open with regular hours on the Fourth of July and has a busy month planned with a host of events revolving around the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing. The Nevada Railroad Museum is also open July 4 offering a parade of trains, rides and more.

The 2019 Ironhorse Rail Camp’s four-day course on train safety and railroad operations is quite the ride at the Nevada State Railroad Museum in Carson City.

From June 13-16, course attendees explore the basic tasks and operations such as railroad and train safety, specific positions on the train crew and the various railroad equipment used during the 20th century.

CARSON CITY — Returning for the 2019 season, the V&T Railway’s popular Toast of the Canyon train rides kicks off on Saturday, June 15 and will feature area wineries, distilleries and breweries. The event, which runs every other Saturday through October, takes passengers into the Carson River Canyon to enjoy libations and appetizers.

Kicking off its 2019 season, V&T Railway will hold a special Mother’s Day train on Saturday, May 11 and Sunday, May 12. Guests will experience a 24-mile round-trip ride through the historic Comstock, departing Carson City (Eastgate Depot) at 10 a.m. and will arrive in Virginia City at approximately 11:30 a.m., before returning to Carson at 4:15 p.m.

Not only is Friday the first day of March in this 2019 calendar year but it is also the end of the work week. And for this we say welcome to a month that brings us the Downtown Carson City Wine Walk, which is this Saturday, NCAA basketball playoffs, St. Patrick's Day celebrations and the first day of spring. This is also the last weekend before Christmas Day, which means the last Santa Trains of the season at the Nevada Railroad Museum. Santa Claus also leaves his North Pole headquarters at the Carson Mall Sunday in preparation for his big night.
