Last week we wrapped up Camp GOTR at the Carson City Community Center. Throughout the week, girls learned how to work as a team, explored characteristics of a good friend, and discussed how to navigate uncomfortable conversations and emotions. We are sending a BIG energy award to all of the volunteers and supporters of GOTR as well as the employees of the Carson City Community Center for making Camp GOTR possible. Girls on the Run Sierras is bringing their week-long, character-building summer camp to Carson City on Aug. 7.

At Camp GOTR, girls will participate in a week-long, half-day camp with lessons about friendship, kindness and creativity. The camp is from 8:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and there is a sliding scale cost.

The University of Nevada, Reno’s Camp Kesem club has been chosen as one of 12 colleges and universities from across the United States to compete to be one out of five schools to be chosen to start a new Camp Kesem chapter in their local area. Camp Kesem is a nationally recognized organization that helps family affected by cancer.

Carson City Cub Scout Troop 341 of Carson City is asking community members for donations to help send our local scouts to cub scout camp this summer in exchange for recycling Christmas trees, which will be donated to a wildlife sanctuary for animal enrichment.

The Carson City Board of Supervisors agreed to settle a lawsuit for a total of $1,250,000 after four children were allegedly sexually abused while enrolled with Camp Carson by a 15-year-old volunteer.

The lawsuits allege that while the children were enrolled in Camp Carson Summer Camp in 2016 as Wagoneers (first graders) a 15-year-old volunteer inappropriately sexually touched the four children.

The Carson City Board of Supervisors will discuss a pair of lawsuit settlements at their meeting tomorrow beginning at 8:30 a.m. in the Sierra Room of the Community Center, at 851 E. William Street.

Paws what you’re doing and mark your calendar for Friday, June 21, 5 and 6:30 p.m. at the Brewery Arts Center. Students with the Carson City School District, in partnership with the Wild Horse Children’s Theater, will debut their Summer Theater Camp’s adaptation of Disney’s "101 Dalmatians, Kids." Admission to the play is free of charge; however, donations will be accepted.

The annual Camp Carson program for kindergarten through 6th grade children through Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space is now open for registration with camp beginning June 17.
