He credits her with setting standards that his restaurant, Cafe at Adele’s, has become renowned for in Carson City.

Roads and highways play a vital role in a community's ability to function safely and efficiently. A healthy transportation system has the added benefit of encouraging economic growth and a financially strong community.

Carson City has been struggling to maintain its roadway system for decades and in numerous public meetings held this year under the auspices of the Transportation Resource Advisory Forum for Carson City (TRAFCC) it was apparent that without new sources of revenue, the community will fall only further behind on maintaining our streets in a serviceable condition.

Hundreds of children, parents, business and community leaders will join the Nevada Afterschool Network today, Thursday, for a Lights On Afterschool rally at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Nevada in Carson City.

A chronic shortage of K-12 teachers isn’t just felt in Washoe and Clark counties, which feature Nevada’s two largest school districts.

The problem is statewide, even in Carson City.

The Lake Tahoe Basin saw continued environmental improvement over the last four years, but faces major challenges from climate change, according to a draft 2015 Threshold Evaluation Report released by the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency.

Carson City Sheriff's Office Lt. Brian Humphrey graduated Friday, Sept. 16, 2016 from the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia. The FBI National Academy is a professional course of study for U.S. and international law enforcement managers nominated by their agency heads because of demonstrated leadership qualities.

This week we note a recent death and two retirements. As Mr. Lincoln said: It is altogether fitting and proper that we should do this. As we mourn the passing of a man, we are reminded of the joy and goodness he brought us, and we also comfort his survivors. In many ways Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton could be considered much alike. Those two would dispute that opinion vigorously. But the American voting public might be interested in the following:

1. Both have low scores with the American public concerning trust and honesty when it comes to many polls.

When the Carson City School District learned it would receive funding through a competitive grant program authorized by Nevada’s Read by Grade 3 Act, it came up with an innovative summer reading program to help its English Language Learner population. Results from the 16-day program were overwhelmingly positive.

The Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe would like to advise travelers going to the Burning Man Festival to obey posted speed limits, and to slow down and keep your distance while traveling through the Pyramid Lake Indian Reservation. The Tribe would like motorists to be aware of the dangers associated with high speeds on two lane highways; all State Routes on the reservation are two lane roads with very narrow shoulders.

Team USA did what they do best in the Olympics....dominate in almost every facet of the games. Swimming, gymnastics, track, field, basketball, and pretty much anything else.

The United States had one of the greatest Olympic Games ever in decades. Dominating not only the overall medal count, but in every color as well.

July was an interesting month indeed.

Nevada Industry Excellence plays an integral role in some of the state’s most important industries: manufacturing, mining and construction. Over a five-year period, partnership efforts between NVIE and businesses in these sectors have resulted in $2.2 billion in output, in the creation or retention of more than 8,400 jobs and in more than $182 million in new federal and state tax revenue.

As most of my readers know when it comes to politics I am a registered Independent. Most other Independents that I spend time around are individual thinkers who appreciate space and time to make up their minds before voting They are not party hardliners as are many Democrats and Republicans. Most Independents that I actually have met several times and waded into great exchanges of political conversation with struck me as voters who are very careful giving their vote to anyone.

Carson Tahoe Health’s Long-Term Acute Care Hospital has been granted a 3-year accreditation by the Center for Improvement in Healthcare Quality, and the LTACH is now officially designated as Nevada’s only CIHQ “Center of Excellence.”

The Nevada Department of Education has received a nearly $3.9 million competitive federal School Improvement grant to assist with significant reforms at Nevada’s underperforming Priority and Focus schools.

The Nevada Division of Tourism, also known as TravelNevada, has been awarded the public relations industry’s most distinguished honor — an elusive Silver Anvil — for its “Don’t Fence Me In” millennial marketing campaign.

It’s not surprising that middle school students are often more fluent in technology than their parents. But now, due to state grant money allocated to Carson and Eagle Valley middle schools, that technological know-how will be guided toward digital education and job readiness as students advance toward graduation.

It usually happens once a year — a big, community wide, fee-waived pet adoption event. The goal? To get a large number of animals into loving homes all at one time while freeing up much needed space in the shelters.
