The event is open to the public and includes a permanent display of an original steel beam from the fallen World Trade Center as well as a patriotic performance by local elementary school children.

Susan Asbury Crowell, wife of Carson City Mayor Robert Crowell, and sponsor of the ship, officially introduced it with a bottle of champagne during the ceremony, which also featured Nevada Congressman Mark Amodei.

Carson City remembers Sept. 11: World Trade Center I-Beam at Mills Park symbolic of strength
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Fri, 09/11/2015 - 1:21pmCarson City residents gathered Friday in Mills Park with law officers and firefighters to remember the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.
The service was held surrounding a I-beam memorial that was given to Carson City in 2010 by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. Among the flowers placed on the beam was as an American flag presented to the Carson City Fire Department by Michael Manfredo. The flag was given to the Carson City man by a son of one of the 343 fighters killed at the World Trade Center that day.

September 11, 2001 is burned into our collective memory. At 8:30 a.m. this morning there will be a memorial service at the 9/11 Memorial in Mills Park where an I-beam from the fallen towers now serves as a reminder. Even if you cannot make it to the ceremony, please take a moment of silence to remember.

U.S. Honor Flag to be presented at funeral for Carson City deputy killed the line of duty
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Sun, 08/16/2015 - 10:02pmThe U.S. Honor Flag will be delivered in tribute to Carson City Sheriff's Office Deputy Carl Howell, who died in the line of duty Saturday, Aug. 15, 2015. This American flag has traveled more than 7 million miles since Sept. 11, 2001 honoring more than 1,000 heroes.
The flag will be delivered in a state-by-state escort that will originate in Texas, said Chris Heisler, president and co-founder of The Honor Network.

In 2008, the army veteran saw a Roster of the Dead, then totaling 4,000. He explains that with the all-volunteer military, more than in any previous war, the Iraq and Afghanistan wars have been remote to the vast majority of Americans. Impersonal.

Mineral, Lyon County Resource Advisory Committee meets Sept. 3

The meetings that were previously scheduled for September 11 and 25 are cancelled; however, the meeting scheduled for September 3 at 10 a.m. will proceed.
The Resource Advisory Committee will meet at the Commissioners Meeting Room, in the Lyon County Administration Complex, on 27 South Main Street, in Yerington, Nev.

Thomas was a retired high-tech industrialist who served on the Carson City School Board, Nevada Welfare Board and Carson City Airport Authority and was a state Assemblyman. He also wrote a column for the Nevada Appeal.)
