Carson City school board meets tonight, principal DUI issue not on the agenda

District Superintendent Richard Stokes will be absent from the meeting because of a planned vacation, officials said.

Carson City School District president 'amazed' marijuana charge dropped against principal
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Sat, 07/17/2010 - 2:39pmAt least one Carson City School District official is troubled by the outcome of Friday's misdemeanor driving under the influence guilty plea by Carson Middle School Principal Sam Santillo.
School board trustee president Norm Scoggin said he's "amazed" that a misdemeanor charge of possession of less than an ounce of marijuana was dropped by the Washoe County District Attorney's Office.
Carson City middle school principal pleads guilty to DUI in Reno courtroom
Submitted by editor on Fri, 07/16/2010 - 7:46pmKRNV News 4 reports tonight that Carson Middle School Principal Sam Santillo pleaded guilty today in a Reno courtroom to driving under the influence.
The 45-year-old principal failed field sobriety tests and his blood alcohol level was .136, according to the report. With the misdemeanor plea he will pay a fine of $500 and perform 48 hours of community service.

Update: Now there is a story that the principal had an open container of alcohol in the vehicle, along with marijuana.
Policy reviews, home education sports waiver on tap for Carson City school board

The meeting begins at 7 p.m. in the Sierra Room of the Carson City Community Center, 851 East William St. The meeting will be televised live on Access Carson City TV and here at Carson Now.
Primary 2010: What did we learn?

I wrote earlier about how the outcome of the supervisors races could give us a clue on how the public views the Nugget Project, AKA the Carson City Center Project.
Karen Abowd, the only candidate to openly support the project, did come in first in her primary with 31 percent of the vote in a six-way race.

Aramark picked by Carson City school committee for food services
Submitted by editor on Tue, 05/11/2010 - 10:03pmA committee designed to look at outsourcing Carson City School District's food service program has tentatively selected Aramark as a provider, district officials told board members tonight. Under terms of a possible contract, district food workers would not lose their jobs.
A contract between Aramark and the district could be presented to the school board by the end of the month.
Three proposals have been on the table, including food service companies Sodexo and Chartwells. The school district will begin a series of negotiations with Aramark to establish a contract.
Survey finds broad support for uniforms at Carson City middle school

A presentation of the survey findings, which shows 66 percent support among CMS parents, will be discussed tonight during the regular meeting of the Carson City School District board. The meeting begins at 7 p.m. in the Sierra Room of the Carson City Community Center, 851 E. William Street. We'll have live coverage of the meeting.

Nevada's senior senator spent time talking and taking pictures with the attendees before exhorting the partisan crowd to help him in his tough reelection campaign this year.
Reid made a short speech before heading out to speak at other county conventions going on across the state today.
