Carson City sheriff's reserve tradition brings Christmas cheer to 86 families
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Thu, 12/25/2014 - 7:49amIt was the night before Christmas in the capital city which, for a brief time at least, threatened slick and snowy roads but instead brought rain showers as Santa made his way to 86 homes via patrol cars in a caravan led by the Carson City Sheriff's Office Reserve Organization.
In a tradition that spans nearly 30 years, a legion of sheriff’s office volunteers dressed as Santa and elves made pre-arranged home visits around Carson City, delivering mighty roars of “Merry Christmas,” candy canes and gifts for children.

Carson city deputies arrest five on felony charges during weekend patrol
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Mon, 08/11/2014 - 10:21amA 50-year-old Carson City man was arrested Friday on a felony charge of possession of a stolen vehicle after he had been stopped and then took off running from officers before being caught, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
James Dean Anderson was taken into custody at 4:38 p.m. in the 1500 block of Continental Drive. He also faces a misdemeanor charge of obstructing a police officer and driving on a revoked license for DUI.

This will be Sanchez’s first celebration trip since becoming the first Miss USA from Nevada since she was crowned on Sunday, June 8.
Miss USA’s homecoming will kick off with a visit to the state’s capital, Carson City. Sanchez will have the opportunity to meet several government officials while visiting the historic Nevada State Capitol.

Last year Tiffani was diagnosed with gliobalstoma, the most common and aggressive malignant brain tumor. She found herself at age 24 in the fight for her life.
Tiffani is well known in Carson City for her beautiful contagious smile and upbeat personality. She is a hairstylist at Salon Chocolat, a Crossfit coach at Carson City Crossfit, but most of all she’s a daughter, sister and a friend.
Governor to unveil new Nevada State Museum exhibit honoring John C. Fremont
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Wed, 01/29/2014 - 11:20amA new exhibit at the Nevada State Museum in Carson City called “Finding Fremont: Pathfinder of the West” will be unveiled by Gov. Brian Sandoval tonight at a public reception from 5 to 7:30 p.m.
The exhibit focuses on the explorer’s Western journey from 1843-1844, when he earned his nickname “The Great Pathfinder,” and brought his famed cannon to Nevada. The free reception will be at the Nevada State Museum at 600 N. Carson St., Carson City and coincides with the state's ongoing Sesquicentennial celebration.

The money from the raffle items went to The Ron Woods Family Center and the cans of food that were donated are going to The Dayton Food Pantry. Next year we have promises from other local businesses to help out and spread much needed donations and Christmas cheer to an area that is largely forgotten.

The small orchestras of the radio shows and vaudeville stage performed varied repertoire from short snappy commercials to full-length works by major composers arranged for their size. Trinkle Brass Works presents Portable Masterpieces, a salon/theater orchestra that will bring this music to life at Piper’s Opera House on Saturday, January 11, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. Light classical, ragtime and plenty of melodrama. Just like it was in the late 1800's and early 20th century.

Woman jailed for allegedly licking child's face outside hair salon
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Mon, 08/19/2013 - 11:14amA 57-year-old Silver Springs woman faces two misdemeanor charges of battery after she allegedly licked the face of a young boy and kissed the neck of the boy's mother outside a Carson City hair salon.
According to a Carson City Sheriff's Office report, a deputy was dispatched to 3200 block of Retail Drive Aug. 16 at 6:44 p.m. in reference to the incident. The officer made contact with the mother who said the 57-year-old woman approached she and her 5-year-old son, licking the right side of the boy's face from the jaw line to his hair line, the arrest report states.

Hair services performed at Hair Studio and body piercing services by Spear Me will be moved to the new location, to be called Paradise Salon-Spa-Wellness. It will be the only salon/spa in the area to provide private and semi-private salon suites.
