I’m not trying to rush you, but the holidays season approaches. As such, the holiday craft fairs, bazaars, and bake sales have arrived. You may as well start looking at that gift list to see who would enjoy something one-of-a-kind and locally crafted. If not for gift giving, these fairs are an excellent way to find fun ways to decorate your home. Other than that, the weekend is kind of quiet, but you'll want take a look at the list and see what catches your fancy.

SATURDAY:

This week's edition of It's Your City with host Cortney Bloomer features Kathy Bartosz, executive director of Partnership Carson City, a community-based coalition that focuses on the safety and health of citizens. Kathy and Cortney also discuss an upcoming Sierra Nevada Forum that focuses on volunteerism.

Pick your poison, Carson City. Art, music, politics, film, hiking: all are available today. CCAI brings us a Nevada Neighbors talk with one of the artists featured in the Nevada Museum of Art. The Wired Wednesday group has a workshop for filmmakers in time for the upcoming creepy film festival and competition. Local candidates can be found at the BAC Performance Hall in the first of three voters' forums. It's hard to miss the new 'Home Means Nevada' mural on the side of CAL Ranch at Winnie Lane; the opening ceremony for our newest piece of art is at 2 p.m.

In preparation of this year's Carson Creepy Short Horror Film competition, Wired Wednesday is hosting a series of free mini workshops focused on the various aspects of filmmaking. Open to the public. All are welcome to attend.

Growing up here I remember yearly the Anderson Ranch Cattle coming through the streets passing by our front yard, It was a unforgettable experience! My open space was taken away by the “Friends of the Anderson Ranch”. Kim Anderson Colard, the property owner, addressed this on May 15 in a wonderful article. It is her personal property and she has a right to sell it and has been careful on what she saw fit for the area that would be appropriate for our community.

Boy Scouts of America Troop 33, now in its 77th year, will host its 3rd annual “Send a Scout to Camp” Car and Truck Show Fundraiser on August 13 at Fuji Park in Carson City.

The Salvation Army is collecting backpacks and school supplies for disadvantaged children through August 17. Children from Carson City, Douglas County and Lyon County will receive backpacks and school supplies as needed. The Salvation Army will have a distribution of the back packs and a large portion of the back packs collected will be given directly to the School Districts for distribution to children in transition.

A 57-year-old woman faces a charge of felony larceny after she allegedly stole a medical walker from an elderly man who was shopping inside Walmart, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Carson City residents Matthew Bartak and Teak Dopf have got inertia down to a science. They haven't stopped moving since the first time they touched a set of wheels.

They've ridden bikes, skateboards, scooters and skates. They loved them all so much that the two friends became partners in a business two years ago that took their passion for riding to another level.

What a wonderful community we live in. Music, theater, hiking, biking, wining, dining, walking, TED-talking, animal loving, state governing, and so much more are available in our valley. The days are getting longer and there is so much in store for us in the coming weeks and months as we journey into summer. Take a good gander at my list of what’s going on in the Carson City area. City Manager, Nick Marano, is the featured speaker at the monthly ‘Soup’s On’ Luncheon sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce. St. Patrick’s Day is around the corner and the celebrations have begun. The Children’s Museum of Northern Nevada has crafts and Irish dancers. Carson Lanes is hosting their annual Pot of Gold Tournament. The Downtown Reno Leprechaun Crawl is always a crazy time. Take a look at this weekend summary to find the fun for miles around.

It’s Presidents Day weekend with a Valentine’s Day cherry on top. There is still time for some shopping if you’re looking for something for your special someone. Artsy Fartsy Art Gallery hosts its annual Champagne and Jewelry party Saturday and offers some amazing hand-crafted bling for your sweetheart. Carson Mall is another great bet for last minute gifts. Several crafters, vendors, and shops make it easy to find something unique. The annual Feast of Chocolate returns to the Plaza Event Center; raising funds for scholarships has never tasted so good.

A 20-year-old Carson City man was arrested Monday after admitting to using a high-powered air pellet rifle to shoot out vehicle windows in a bank parking area from his second floor apartment unit, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

It’s the last weekend of January: where does the time go? Head out to one of our local hot spots for some food, fun, and friends. The Brewery Arts Center is a triple threat tonight with the Carson High School play, an artist’s show and reception, and bluegrass band: the Dusty Green Bones.
