On Saturday, May 4, volunteers joined Lyndsey Boyer, the Carson City Parks, Recreation & Open Space Senior Natural Resource Specialist and Marenna Disbro, the Carson City Weed Coalition Coordinator to help pull 80 pounds of poison hemlock around Bailey’s Pond.

Heading into Tuesday, May 7, 2019 we are looking at another picture perfect day for a morning or evening stroll with Carson City's own Muscle Powered and a bevy of events, including a chamber digital marketing workshop, Polka Dot Powerhouse Carson City Chapter meeting and open house, family movie and craft night at the Carson City Library, a filmmaking discussion followed by a showing of the classic "12 Angry Men" at the Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall and more. What a week it was Carson City, and it isn't even over yet. Heading into Friday, May 3, 2019, we're looking at continued sunny skies and temperatures in the low 70s. There's a host of activities Friday and, looking ahead, a bevy of fun Saturday including a Mother's Day craft fair at the Carson City Community Center, a Star Wars themed bicycle safety day, a wine, cheese and dessert ride aboard the V&T, an early opening of the downtown farmer's market, the May Downtown Carson City Wine Walk, a memorial walk, presentations, comedy, live music and more. Oh what a difference the sunshine makes. The second day of May in Carson City will bring warming temperatures with a daytime high in the low 70s. The event lineup Thursday includes a law enforcement memorial at the capitol complex, a hike at Clear Creek, art showings, a lecture on the historic Transcontinental Railroad, live music and more. Headed into Saturday, April 27, 2019 we're looking at another picture-perfect spring weather day and cool overnight temperatures. There's lots of activities ahead, including a colorful fun run at Mills Park, a free paper and document recycling event hosted by Debug Computer, a prescription drug roundup, the Silver State's own celebration of the Aloha State, a Carson High School speech team fundraiser at Flavors of India, art showings and sales and a fundraiser at Flat Earth Pizza for a wonderful Carson City woman who is in the throes of cancer. The Brevet can be traced back to front man Aric Chase Damm’s college days where he realized he had a talent for writing scores to be used in student films. This lead to a licensing deal, tracks from the band’s albums would be used in film and television, and an every-growing popularity online. True to their roots, The Brevet create songs that are cinematic, full of catchy hooks, and blend the excitement of thunderous percussion, electric guitars, and some R&B swagger.

Josh Hoyer and Soul Colossal formed, in 2012, in the blues-town of Lincoln, Nebraska. The five-piece band had been inspired by sounds of Motown, Stax, Muscle Shoals, New Orleans, Philadelphia, and San Francisco; they are “music for the people, by the people,” and they do whatever they can to get a crowd dancing to forget all about their own troubles. Their musical roots and inspirations can be heard alongside their more-contemporary sound as they charge into the modern era of soul music. In January 2019, Josh Hoyer and Soul Colossal released their fourth studio album: “Do It Now.”

Terrance Simien has been the original instrument, the voice, to both express shared human emotions and bring his audiences of a multicultural tour of the world; he has created a blend of “New Orleans-funk-reggae-flavored-world-blues-American-zydeco roots music,” that will move an audience to start grooving along to new, innovative sounds grounded in a Creole tradition. In 1983, eighteen-year-old Simien started touring and by age twenty was performing along siege Fats Domino and Sarah Vaugh.

Our favorite sheep friends are working hard to reduce cheatgrass for fire season, and while people are permitted to go and coo over how adorable they are, multiple people have been also bringing their furry friends without leashing them, which scares the sheep and makes it difficult to perform their important work.
