The annual Mother’s Day weekend rides on the V&T Railroad are set for Saturday and Sunday, May 7-8. The first excursion of the season is also one of the most popular as families spend the day together celebrating mom.

Robin McGregor, owner of Carson City Pottery with her husband, Rich, whimsically describes working with clay as feeling like a kid again.
“I love to feel the clay in my hands,” she said. “It gives me pleasure to throw.”
Just to be clear, “throwing” is the term used by pottery artists when shaping clay. It’s something Robin McGregor has been doing for 24 years since she first put clay in her hands.

Hypocrisy exists in anti-smoking message

Don’t smoke. Smoking kills.
The anti-smoking crusade, which started back in the seventies and picked up steam in the eighties, has succeeded in getting Joe Camel and the Marlboro Man removed completely from the media. Tobacco is the first thing to get taxed whenever government needs more revenue. And states have passed laws banning tobacco use in public and private spaces.

Mountain Biking to Virginia City

These trails and back roads can be impassable in the winter, muddy in the Spring, and too hot during the Summer. This time of year, though, the dry conditions and mild temperatures make it the perfect time to go. One of our favorite Fall rides is the off-road route up to Virginia City via the American Flat Toll Road. With the area’s fun and lively Old West history, this ride has started to become an annual event.
Baldini's Casino breaks ground on High Sierra Brewery, Tim Mason named head brewer
Submitted by editor on Mon, 08/11/2014 - 7:29amBaldini’s Casino in Sparks has begun work on its latest addition, High Sierra Brewery, a 15-barrel brew house and restaurant slated to open in the fall of 2014.
Development of the brewery is the result of a partnership between Baldini’s and High Sierra Brewing Company owner Jim Phalan. Together, Phalan and Baldini’s General Manager Craig Soper have recruited award-winning brewer Tim Mason as Head Brewer for the new establishment. The brewery relocated after leaving Carson City earlier this year.
