Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region. Franktown Apples in Washoe Valley is hosting apple picking Friday through Sunday. In celebration of National Public Lands Day, Nevada State Parks will have a fee-free day on Saturday filled with hikes and tours. I was scrolling around on Facebook today and ran into a post. “Once you are in a relationship, you think it’s going to last forever. In reality, it only lasts as long as you are both working for it. If one of you stops working, it falls apart.” Lots of comments in agreement were posted. There were lots of likes and loves. My viewpoint is slightly different.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year and Carson City residents showed up in masses to start their holiday shopping. Carson High School (CHS) played host to over a hundred crafters, artisans, candy makers, knitters and even more happy shoppers at this weekend’s 25th Annual Holiday Craft Fair.

Kimberly Okezie has loved stuffed animals since she was a child, beginning with a plush koala bear that she says stayed with her into adulthood until time literally unraveled the stitching on the toy.

Activities around the capital city include a meeting of the Board of Supervisors, a Muscle Powered hike at Silver Saddle Ranch, a rally at the legislative building, modern western square dancing lessons, art showings, library activities and more. The Carson Mall is inviting all children to come and decorate pumpkins in time for Halloween. Children are invited to get creative with pumpkin decorating, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily Tuesday through Saturday, Oct. 19.

Celebrating nearly three decades of turning the round, orange members of the squash family into memorable Halloween carving traditions, Seeliger Elementary School in Carson City will host its 27th annual Pumpkin Patch this Saturday, Oct. 12.

SILVER SPRINGS, Nev. — Enjoy an afternoon of old-fashioned Halloween fun at Fort Churchill State Historic Park. This family-friendly event will feature a variety of activities including harvest games on the museum lawn, a scavenger hunt around the fort ruins to earn treats, hay rides, and pumpkin carving and scarecrow building contests.

I like ‘Delicata’ winter squash. With my most recent purchase, I wondered if I saved seeds, would they produce true ‘Delicata’ squash next fall or some cross-bred anomaly.

On a recent visit to Oregon, I spent three days harvesting produce from our friends’ garden before temperatures could kill cold-sensitive crops. We harvested bushels of tomatoes, four kinds of peppers including "Jimmy Nardellos" and jalapeños, lemon cucumbers, "Malibu" green beans, artichokes, golden raspberries, basil and figs.

Carson Tahoe successfully wrapped up its 6th annual Spooktacular event Tuesday night in Carson City. A scary good time was had by over 800 kids and at least 1,000 total in attendance.

Girls Scouts of all ages gathered at the Carson City Senior Center Friday night to create fall decorations for Meals on Wheels recipients.

Families braved crisp, chilly temperatures in the thirties Saturday morning to participate in the 26th annual Seeliger Elementary Pumpkin Patch Fall Festival in Carson City.

The thunderous roar of jet engines will rumble across the skies above Carson City and the Carson Valley this weekend as the famed U.S. Navy Blue Angels flight team headlines the 2018 Aviation Roundup at the Minden-Tahoe Airport.

Ten-year-olds Matilda Neill, Angelina Martinez and Yadira Vargas-Nunez from Ms. Jill Steel's fifth grade class help display pumpkins for Seeliger Elementary's 26th annual pumpkin patch.

Come on down to the Carson Mall Scare Crow Festival, spanning two Saturdays, Oct. 13 and Oct. 20, from 12-3 p.m. and 3-6 p.m. Scarecrows cost $20 per day and pumpkins are $15 each day to decorate.
