The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency this week announced and recognized award recipients for its 25th annual Best in the Basin program. The agency created the recognition program to showcase projects that demonstrate exceptional planning, design, and compatibility with Lake Tahoe’s environment and communities.

Here is the Carson City area road report for the week of Sept. 7-13, 2015: Beginning Tuesday, Sept. 8, through Friday Sep. 11, Race Track Road will be closed between Bigelow Drive and Saddlehorn Road due to utility work. Saddlehorn Road will be open to local traffic only and there will be limited access during night hours. Detours will be signed.

Vintage aircraft at Carson City Airport Sunday to mark end of WWII

The Carson City Airport will have a number of vintage airplanes on display this Sunday, Aug. 30 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. for an event to celebrate the end of World War II.

Cactus Air Force Wings and Wheels Museum will have several pieces of vintage aircraft at the airport. The community is invited to this free event to mark the 70th anniversary of the end to World War II. Among the aircraft is a WWII era TBM avenger fly as well as plenty of other planes and vehicles from both WWII as well as Vietnam.

Lawmakers at 2015 Lake Tahoe Summit address funding to protect Sierra's crown jewel

Lawmakers from Nevada and California met Monday on the shores of Lake Tahoe to discuss how to protect a national treasure as it faces continued threats to water clarity, invasive species, wildfire and drought.

Ever since President Bill Clinton held the first meeting in South Lake Tahoe in 1997, the annual focus of the Lake Tahoe Summit is to protect what Mark Twain called "the fairest picture the whole world affords."

Key study launched to understand increased algae growth in Lake Tahoe

The U.S. Geological Survey and the University of Nevada, Reno, will study the cause of eutrophication, or increased algae growth, along the nearshore of Lake Tahoe, researchers announced Wednesday.

Supported by California’s Lahontan Regional Water Quality Control Board, the investigation is in response to widespread concerns with water quality and ecological degradation of the lake’s close to shore environment.

The Nevada Department of Transportation will continue construction of drainage improvements on U.S. Highway 50 West between the two truck ramps, just west of Highway 395 to Sierra Highlands Drive. There will be lane closures Monday through Friday, but the roadway will remain open to traffic in both directions.

NDOT announces Highway 50 erosion project south of Carson City up Spooner grade

A $1.2 million road project to reduce erosion, preserve water quality and enhance storm drains along Highway 50 in south Carson City and west along Spooner grade will begin this month, the Nevada Department of Transportation announced Tuesday.

Stewart Indian School Powwow features Native American culture

Feathers, beads and bells danced through the Stewart Indian School campus in Carson City for family and friends this Father's Day weekend. The Stewart Father's Day Powwow displayed outstanding dancers, traditional food and local vendors. The weekend long celebration began Friday and will continue until Sunday.
