Country Dancing Comes to Piper's Opera House

The Carson Lanes Country Kickers, a dance group that meets and dances weekly at Carson Lanes’ Eleventh Frame Lounge, will bring their skill, enthusiasm and fun to the first, in what hopefully will be the first of many country dance nights on the spring-loaded dance floor at Piper’s.

Things to do on Wednesday in Carson City

Yesterday’s Jazz and beyond performances were moved indoors at the Brewery Arts Center when the rain hit, but I have more hope for today’s skies. Look for The Other Brothers Band this evening in the Comma Coffee Courtyard. Carson City BMX hosts practice and racing at the track in the Livermore Sports Complex; all ages are invited to participate, and one day memberships are available for those who’d like to try it out.

Seeing as the annual parade is still months away, I’m going to side with ‘The Taste’ purely for its timeliness. With over forty local eateries participating, multiple raffles at downtown shops, and seven bands rocking every corner of the event, it’s practically impossible to have a bad time. This might be the biggest happening in town, but it’s by no means the only good time: read on for all this weekend’s options.

Life of Julia Bulette featured at Leisure Hour Club dinner meeting
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Sat, 10/07/2017 - 9:50amMembers of the Carson City Leisure Hour Club will learn of the loves and losses of Julia Bulette, renowned resident of Virginia City, at their dinner meeting on Wednesday, October 18.
Bulette’s murder began a manhunt that last over a year and resulted in the arrest, trial, and the April 24, 1869 execution of John Millian.
In what was the largest gathering of people in Nevada up to that time, 3,000 to 4,000 people were present at the hanging.

The train will depart the depot in Carson City at 10 a.m. arrive in Virginia City about 11:15 a.m. you will then be shuttled up to the opera house, lunch is from noon to 1 p.m. and the concert will start at 1:30 p.m., you will then be shuttled back to the train depot for the ride back to Carson City.

The Territorial Enterprise newspaper writer Dan DeQuille was commissioned to tell the story of the epic 1873 discovery of the Comstock Lode by the “Bonanza King”’ John W. Mackey.

Genoa, Virginia City and Incline Village listed in magazine's top 10 travel list

Noting Nevada is the seventh largest state by area, the website describes the Silver State comes with a "great deal of open space, varying landscapes, and many small towns dotting the terrain." The CultureTrip.com website has previously featured Carson City and Virginia City area landmarks, museums and restaurants as unique or must-see stops for travelers.
