In an era where students are more comfortable communicating behind a screen rather than face-to-face, teaching Physical Education can be more than challenging at times. It seems that each year there are fewer students who enjoy physical activity. This year has been no different.

Pioneer High School Senior Highlight

Pioneer High School’s Senior in the Spotlight for the month of April is Isaiah Zacarias.

Isaiah is friendly, kind, helpful, and respectful. He is always willing to help around campus with any tasks. Isaiah moved to Carson City from northern California when he was seven years old. Isaiah has been attending PHS since his freshman year, and he has always been very involved in campus activities.

Reception Tonight: Carson City art exhibition 'Creative Spark' features 32 area high school artists

The Capital City Arts Initiative announces its exhibition, Creative Spark, at the Community Development Building, also known as the Brick, 108 E Proctor Street, Carson City.

Thirty-two students from Carson, Dayton, Douglas, and Pioneer high schools have work in the exhibit. CCAI will host a reception for the artists on Wednesday, April 10, 5 to 6:30 p.m.

Pioneer High School students had plenty of opportunities to participate in new and important experiences when they attended the Career and Development Conference in Reno.

Pioneer High School’s Senior in the Spotlight for the month of March is Kaylee Vega. Kaylee is hardworking, honest, dependable, and kind. She also has a great sense of humor. She began attending PHS during her sophomore year. The smaller campus and extra help with academics are what appealed to her most.

Carson City HOSA students compete in state competition, take home 6 chapter awards

CARSON CITY — A total of 93 Career and Technical Education (CTE) and HOSA (Future Health Professionals) students competed in the Nevada State Leadership Conference held at the Rio in Las Vegas March 18-20.

There were a total of 74 students from Carson High School (CHS), 6 from Pioneer High School (PHS) and 13 from Carson Middle School (CMS). More than 1,000 students from across the state of Nevada competed in more than 40 medical competition events.

No make up day required for snow day in Carson City; staff to return for development day

CARSON CITY — With the end of the school year drawing nigh, the Carson City School District announced Tuesday that it meets or exceeds the minimum number of minutes taught per day, and in turn, students will not be required to make up the one day lost due to a weather-related school cancellation.

The Carson City School Board will host its next meeting on March 12 at 7 p.m. in the Sierra Room of the Carson City Community Center, located at 851 E. William Street.

Topics to discuss will include the Superintendent’s Report, which will go over the NJROTC Orienteering Team and the report from the national competition. In addition, the Carson City High School Cheer Team and the recognition of third place winner at the USA Spirit Nationals Competition will be discussed.

Normally at this time of year I would be reminding folks to water trees if we haven’t had significant precipitation. Watering now would be an exercise in futility. I’m writing this after 24 inches of snow fell at our house, then three to five inches of rain, followed by another inch of snow, with no end in sight.

February School Board Meeting to discuss climate change, extracurriculars

The Carson City School District February meeting will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 26 in the Sierra Room at the Carson City Community Center, 851 E. William Street, beginning at 7 p.m.

One item on the table for discussion is the adoption of “Schools for Climate Change,” described as a non-partisan, grassroots, youth-adult campaign with a mission to empower schools to speak up for climate change in order to protect current and future generations.
