The Gift of Creativity

Since joining the Brewery Arts Center a month ago, I've had the pleasure of enjoying some memorable performances at the Maize Harris Jesse Black Box Theater. It left me wondering what took me so long to get on the BAC bandwagon.

First there were the haunting Celtic airs of kilted bagpipe player Sean Cummings, accompanied by harpist Anne Roos.

Final weekend for Western Nevada Musical Theatre Company’s ‘My Fair Lady’

Western Nevada Musical Theatre Company’s production of “My Fair Lady” has been hugely successful playing to nearly sold out consecutive shows.
The Reno News and Review gives it five stars: "Fortunately, this production’s lush settings, gorgeous costumes, impressive choreography and talented performers all combine for a show that does everything right."
Three shows remain before the final curtain closes on Sunday, Nov. 23. The shows are in the Bob Boldrick Theater at the Carson City Community Center.

Reno Philharmonic Orchestra offers free Family Concert highlighting young talent

The pure love of music is inspiring and motivating and, for many, life changing. This is especially true for youth involved with orchestral programs. The Reno Philharmonic Association’s Free Family Concert and Youth Orchestra Fall Showcase puts the organization’s music education program center stage Nov. 15 at the Pioneer Center for the Performing Arts, Reno, Nev. The concerts are part of the Reno Philharmonics’ education and outreach initiatives, providing music education, enrichment and exposure to thousands of Washoe County and greater Truckee Meadows school children.

It's Wine Walk Saturday in Carson City

On your “Must Not Miss” list, is the popular Downtown Carson City Wine Walk held the first Saturday of every month from 1- 5 p.m.
Today's wine walk is going to be the best yet with Rice Street on the north end of downtown offering a shop local street faire. Vendors, Crafters, and artisans will be set up in the streets.

The Brewery Arts Center will be having street performers throughout the wine walk, and many of the shops will be having end of summer clearances. Make sure to get your tickets and bring a friend.

Visitors Bureau, BAC team up to show acclaimed street musician film 'Find Your Way'

Silver State's 150th birthday celebration ramps up with signature Vegas events leading to Nevada Day 2014

The Smith Center will celebrate the Nevada Sesquicentennial with a concert event showcasing the Silver State’s very own entertainment featuring extraordinary performers from all around the state on Monday, September 22 at 7 p.m. at the Donald W. Reynolds Hall inside The Smith Center. The star-studded event will feature artists, entertainers and celebrities who all call Nevada home.

Tahoe Peace Concert brings celebration to Sand Harbor

Award winning performers from San Francisco, Los Angeles, Santa Cruz, Reno and Tahoe will grace the stage for Trails and Vistas World Concert at Sand Harbor State Park at 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 6.

The World Concert, an original blend of diverse musicians, aerialists and dancers, is produced by Trails and Vistas, a Truckee, CA-based nonprofit organization dedicated to producing inspiring art events in nature, in collaboration with the Truckee Tahoe Peace Project.

 

HopeFest free outdoor concert tonight to benefit local cancer patients

UPDATE: The Carson Tahoe Health Foundation is pleased to host HopeFest 2014, an outdoor concert tonight, Friday, offering free admission with all sales on food, drinks and raffle tickets directly benefitting local cancer patients.

Nationally famed folk-rock band, Antsy McClain and The Trailer Park Troubadours known for their cowboy jazz, Tex-Mex groove and soulful R&B dance tunes will be the headlining performers. The event runs from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Carson Tahoe Cancer Center located at 1535 Medical Parkway, Carson City.

Carson City area performers needed for historical living stage productions

Project Americans Coming Together local director Carla Wilson, and event coordinator Joy Evans will hold an informational meeting and auditions for two local original productions designed to bring both national and local history to life.

Carson City Jazz and Beyond Summer Music Festival launches Aug. 1

The Jazz and Beyond Festival, Aug. 1-17 in Carson City, embraces numerous artists and highlights various venues in and around the Capital City and includes such genres as: Bluegrass, Blues, Middle-Eastern music and much more.

The styles of musical interpretations are as unique as the settings — offering exciting experience for all to enjoy. Last year, the festival featured 60 performances and over 100 performers. Event Promoters expect to once again exceed the expectations of attendees with an amazing lineup.

Washoe festival celebrates 'the people from here' at Lake Tahoe this weekend

The Wa She Shu It Deh Native American Arts Festival returns to Valhalla at the Tallac Historic site this weekend, July 26-27. The festival celebrates the Washoe's ancient lifeways and their Lake Tahoe homeland.

The festival features traditional American Indian dancers and drum performers, basket weaving displays, art, and great food. Sponsored by the Washoe Tribe of Nevada and California, this event is free to attend, and open to the public. The festival runs 10 a.m. am to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday on Valhalla’s Grand Lawn.

Youth Theatre Carson City presents Seussical The Musical, Jr. beginning July 25

Youth Theatre Carson City is thrilled to announce our upcoming production of SEUSSICAL, JR., an exciting adventure through the world of Dr. Seuss. The show will run two weekends, July 25 – August 3, 2014 in the Bob Boldrick Theatre at the Carson City Community Center. SEUSSICAL, JR. is great fun for the whole family. Over 70 young local performers portray all the characters from the popular Dr. Seuss books in this fantastical musical extravaganza.

The Folklife Program of the Nevada Arts Council has named Las Vegas residents Gary and Sheldeen Haleamau as recipients of the 2015 Nevada Heritage Award. The Haleamaus are recognized for preserving, perpetuating and presenting their native Hawaiian culture throughout Nevada.

August auditions for Western Nevada Musical Theatre Company's 'My Fair Lady'

The Western Nevada Musical Theatre Company is distributing audition information for the Lerner and Loewe masterwork, My Fair Lady, to play in eight performances this November at the Carson City Community Center.
Auditions will be the second week of August. Specific times, location and information on what to prepare for auditions will be emailed to those who sign up for auditions.

Plans for Carson City Jazz and Beyond Music Festival underway

Get ready for an exciting summer of music when the Jazz and Beyond Carson City Music Festival takes place, August 1-17. The festival, which began in 2004, is presented by the Mile High Jazz Band Assoc.

Last year, the Jazz and Beyond Festival featured 60 performances and over 100 performers, and organizers hope to match that accomplishment this year. Most performances are presented free to the public. Beyond jazz, the festival included bluegrass, blues, mariachi, and more.

'Chicago' to hit the stage May 9-18 in Carson City

Murder. Corruption. Greed. Fame. And all that jazz. The Western Nevada Musical Theater Company brings the sizzling Broadway blockbuster, Chicago, to Northern Nevada on weekends, May 9-18 at the Carson City Community Center.

Set in the windy city during the roaring 1920's, the show follows the stories of two murderers - nightclub singer Velma Kelly, who kills her husband and sister when she finds them cheating on her; and aspiring vaudeville singer Roxie Hart, who murders her lover for promising to get her into show biz, only to get her into bed.

Jazz and Beyond seeks volunteers for annual Carson City music festival

The "Jazz and Beyond: Carson City Music Festival" will hold a kick-off meeting for organizers and potential volunteers on Tuesday, Feb. 11, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the Carson City Chamber of Commerce Conference Room, 1200 S. Carson St., Carson City. This year's festival is scheduled to run from Aug. 1 to 17 at multiple locations in Carson City.

Western Nevada Musical Theatre Company's production of Les Misérables underway

The highly anticipated Western Nevada Musical Theatre Company production of Les Misérables is now underway at the Carson City Community Center with 10 performances of the famed international hit weekends through Nov. 24.

Produced and directed by Stephanie Arrigotti, choreographed by Gina Kaskie Davis and conducted by Kevin Murphy, the stage production features a cast of nearly 60 performers and is complemented by a professional orchestra.

Western Nevada Musical Theatre Company’s Les Misérables’ cast prepares for November shows

A cast of nearly 60 performers has been selected for Western Nevada Musical Theatre Company’s first-ever production of Les Misérables in November. The theatre company will present 10 performances of the famed international hit on weekends, Nov. 8-24, at the Carson City Community Center.

Nick Favero has been cast in the lead role Jean Valjean, whose dark life as a convict is transformed by a saintly bishop after he nearly returns to prison for stealing.
