Lyon County School District has come away with four of the Nevada Association of School Boards 2020 Awards. Josh Wiley, rock-star teacher at Silver Stage Middle School, is recognized as the Innovative Educator of the Year.

Activities include the annual parade down Carson Street, a carnival at Mills Park, the 30th annual Nevada Day Classic, The La Ka Lel Be Pow Wow at the MAC, beard and rock drilling contests, delicious food dishes, pancakes, chili and plenty of beverages to suit kids and adults of all ages.

The upcoming Carson City Republican Women's Club meeting will have Nevada State Senator James Settelmeyer as the guest speaker.

The meeting will be held in the Casino Fandango ballroom on Tuesday, October 15, 2019. Social hour begins at 11:00 a.m. and the meeting/luncheon at 11:30 a.m.

The Carson City Airport will once again be hosting its Open House and Fly-In this Saturday, June 29 from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m., with all proceeds going to benefit the Eagle Valley Children’s Home.

Every year Carson City Republican Women offer a $2000 scholarship to a graduating senior from the greater Carson City, Moundhouse and Dayton areas.

Carson City Republican Women will meet on Tuesday, March 19 to hear our featured speaker Jennifer Baker, Director of Communications for the Nevada Republican Caucus.

Ms. Baker will give us an overview of the current legislative session as well as effective engagement for what is important. Our meeting will be held at the Casino Fandango grand ballroom with social time beginning at 11 a.m. and the meeting called to order at 11:30 a.m.

Of course, the 80th annual Nevada Day Parade is the centerpiece of the Silver State's 154th birthday celebration.

Nevada's celebration of statehood provides for a bevy of activities that showcase the Silver State's best. From contests to exhibits, food and beverages of all kinds, Native dancing, hot air balloons, concerts, a carnival celebration at Mills Park and the famed Nevada Day parade, there is something for everyone throughout the long weekend.

Sunday is supposed to be a day for rest, so spend the rest of your weekend making it a fun day.

If the work week flew by for you, then you will want to be sure to catch some of the events occurring in our area before the weekend passes you by. It's already Saturday, Sept. 15, so don't waste any more time.

The theme of the 30th anniversary year of Dayton Valley Days this Saturday and Sunday is “Community,” celebrating both the 100th year anniversary of the Dayton High School building which has since become a community center, and the community of Dayton Valley as a whole.

Dayton Valley Days returns Sept. 15-16, and this year is celebrating the 100th year anniversary of the old Dayton High School, now known as the Dayton Community Center.

The last weekend of August holds tight to summertime tradition. Get something fresh from the field at Farmers Markets in Carson City, Genoa, and Dayton. Celebrate the end of summer with La Chamba on the Brewery Arts Center outdoor stage – one more season of Levitt Amp Community Concerts successfully behind us. Yeah, it’s hot out there, but it’s the area happenings that are sizzling. The Carson City Fair at Fuji Park offers a plethora of entertainment for all ages including tractor pulls, a carnival, and farm animals. Under the shade of the Mills Park cottonwoods, you’ll have all day to peruse the varied vehicles in the annual Run Whatcha Brung Car Show. The sun will come out tomorrow, but it’s the stars that are coming out tonight for the free Levitt Amp Concert at the Brewery Arts Center.

A very happy Fourth of July to everyone. Listed below is my collection of celebrations in Northern Nevada. You’ll find them listed by their start time, so read through the list for all your options. If there is not a city/town listed after the location, then the event is happening in Carson City. Carson Valley doesn’t have a fireworks celebration, but they get the day off to a great start with a fun run, bbqs, concerts, and more. Be prepared for traffic if you want to watch at the lake, and a designated driver is suggested no matter where you end up. Have a safe holiday and enjoy.

Fourth of July celebrations abound in the Carson City area. Fireworks can be found in Carson City, Virginia City, Reno, Sparks, and at both north and south shore of Lake Tahoe. There are several daytime events going on this week so grab the kids, your friends and family, and have a great Independence Day.

A big thanks to everyone involved in the Carson City Airport Open House. Everyone was having and a good time and the pancake breakfast was excellent!
