Nevada Day is one of Carson City's biggest events and enjoyed by thousands of people. This year, Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space is working closely with the Nevada Day committee to orchestrate a mass clean-up of downtown the day following Nevada Day.

The National Weather Service says there's a 30 percent chance today and 70 percent chance Wednesday. Good news for our rather parched city. Among today's featured events are a morning walk and evening hike, a Pony Express celebration in Silver Springs, a viewing of the Hitchcock classic "Rear Window" and more.

Among today's featured events are the Think Pink Breast Cancer Awareness campaign Kickoff at Red’s Old 395 Grill, art showings, a candidate luncheon and Monday night football. Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval has ordered flags to half-staff this Monday, Oct. 1 from sunrise to sunset as a mark of respect and in remembrance of the victims of #1October. #VegasStronger

On Saturday, Sept. 22, Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space hosted its first full moon guided hike at Prison Hill. While the department does have multiple guided hikes throughout the season, this was the first hike guided during the full moon.

Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space is currently seeking individuals and pairs interested in leading interpretive programs in one of our many parks and open spaces.

Carson City and its collaborative partner, Carson Rifle and Pistol Club, implemented a modified schedule for its Covered and Prone 300 Yard Rifle Line, due to reports of a possible safety concern at the Carson City Rifle and Pistol Range.

From deal hunters to hagglers and window shoppers, the second annual Carson City Community Garage Sale drew a steady stream of people Saturday at the Carson City Community Center east parking lot.

The event was hosted by the Carson City Department of Parks, Recreation and Open Space.

UPDATE: A decision was made Sunday to re-open the Rifle Line without scheduling restrictions, 7 per week effective immediately after a thorough investigation and consultation with the Carson City Sheriff’s Office. Go here for the full story.

The Carson City Rifle and Pistol Range, located at 4000 Flint Drive off Rifle Range Road, will have a modified schedule for its Covered and Prone 300-yard Rifle Line, the Consolidated Municipality of Carson City said, effective immediately.

On Saturday, Sept. 15, nearly 200 Carson High School's Navy Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps, also known as NJROTC, participated in a mass clean-up of East Silver Saddle Ranch in Carson City.

A day of remembrance, heroism that won’t be forgotten, today is Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2018. Among Carson City featured events include a presentation by Nevada’s Homeland Security Advisor at the Nevada State Library, a National Day of Service outdoor cleanup at Silver Saddle Ranch and a 9/11 Memorial Service at Mills Park. Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space will host its second annual Community Garage Sale on Sept. 22, 2018 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The first Saturday of the month always plays host to the Downtown Carson City Wine Walk, but with the Jazz and Beyond Musical Festival in full swing, you’ll have even more reasons to meander around downtown. The afternoon ice cream social at the historic Foreman-Roberts House is a perfect family-friendly treat before heading to the Brewery Arts Center for tonight’s free concert. During the month of August, join a Carson City park ranger to learn about a variety of nature topics related to the outdoors in the area.

Some days were just made for the beach. But if you can’t make the trip up to Tahoe, you can always beat the heat at Carson Lanes. With one dollar games all day, it’s an inexpensive way to stay cool. Every afternoon this week teens can head down to the Carson City Library for a healthy dose of cinema classics: it’s 80s movie marathon week. Learn what's popping up in your garden at the Shoe Tree Brewery. Experts will be around to help you discern what could cause you trouble during tonight's 'Bring Your Own Noxious Weed' event. All ages karaoke at the Fox Brewpub is a fun way to finish a Monday night.

Memorial Day weekend began as just another Saturday for brothers Dennis and Jim Manning, and Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space employee Daniel Krahn.

Bring any unknown plants from your yard to Shoe Tree Brewing Company in Carson City on Monday, June 25 and have experts from the Carson City Weed Coalition and Open Space Department identify them while enjoying some tasty brews.

The event starts at 6 p.m. The coalition will tell you if your plants are noxious or not, and how to get rid of them if they are.

Do you want to help protect the environment? Come listen to environmental experts from around the Carson City region explain how they protect our soil, air, and water and how our everyday activities impact the earth. Then, learn what small lifestyle changes you can make to protect it.

Carson City again welcomes the Fathers’ Day PowWow to the Stewart Indian School Campus for a weekend of dancing, vendors and crafts, and community. Now, when I say bicycle invasion, I’m not exaggerating. The Carson City Off-Road hosted by Epic Rides brings mountain bike enthusiasts from all over to compete in our hills. You’ll find downtown road-closures to make way for the race routes, a bike expo, beer garden, and a music festival on Saturday. Head up to Western Nevada College to welcome the Journey of Hope Bike Tour.

UPDATE: 3:46PM: Sonoma Park in Carson City will be closed for a renovation project Monday, June 18 and will open up to normal activities on June 20.

If you didn’t take advantage of early voting, then today is the day to cast that Primary ballot. The local library can be your best friend during summer vacation; Carson City celebrated the kick-off to their summer program on Sunday, while the library in Minden will host a party this evening to get the summer events started. The State Library and Archives have started a new lunchtime program. Join them for Archives Appetizer, a monthly speaker program that will cover different topics of Nevada History. Muscle Powered features two guided hikes on Tuesdays.
