Silver Springs February Social for Families with Military Members and Veterans

Two guest speakers will be featured this month at the second Silver Springs social for families with military members and veterans.

The social will be held on Saturday, Feb. 26 at 11 a.m. at the Silver Springs Senior/Community Center, 2945 Fort Churchill Road in Silver Springs. The gathering is for Silver Springs and Stagecoach families of veterans, enlisted and reserve members, and for reserve, active duty, and veterans. It is open to anyone from Silver Springs and Stagecoach with a family member who is or has been in the military. Children are very welcome!

Carson City Sheriff's Office receives award for 'National Night Out'

(Press release) On January 5, 2011 Carson City Sheriff’s Office received a national award for “Outstanding Citizen Participation” for the 2010 National Night Out special event hosted in August. National Night Out heightens crime and drug prevention awareness, community safety and, as in the case of Carson City, strengthens police-community partnerships. This award is the latest in the list of recognitions Carson City Sheriff’s Office received for the 2010 event including Congressional Awards from Congressman Dean Heller and a Letter of Commendation from Senator John Ensign.

Energy and industry topics at NNDA breakfast

A breakfast Thursday morning hosted by the Northern Nevada Development Authority will feature a panel of experts who will discuss the business of energy, industry and innovation.
The meeting will be held at the Carson Nugget. Doors open at 7 a.m. with breakfast at 7:30 a.m. The cost is $20 for NNDA investors with reservations and $35 for guests or at the door. Questions, contact NNDA at (775) 883-4413.

Flu Vaccinations Offered to the Community for Free

Carson City Health and Human Services will hold three free vaccination clinics. A walk-in vaccination clinic will be at Carson City Senior Center, 911 Beverly Drive. Drive-through clinics will be held at Nevada National Guard, 244 Fairview Drive and East Fork Fire and Paramedic Districts, Station 12, 3620 N. Sunridge Drive. A proclamation from Mayor Bob Crowell has proclaimed Oct. 16 is Community Flu Vaccination Day emphasizing the importance of vaccination as the best defense against flu and serves as a reminder that free influenza vaccinations will be offered to the community Saturday, Oct.

Carson City Flu Vaccination Day on Oct. 16

Saturday, Oct. 16 is Carson City Community Flu Vaccination Day, with vaccines offered to the community at no cost.
It is the seventh year for the program. Last year, there were 8,000 seasonal flu shots given and 21,000 H1N1 shots administered, health officials said.
Approximately 5,000 of the doses have been ordered and will be ready to administer on Oct. 16, said Susan Pintar, county health officer.
There will be three locations for the free community vaccination day, which will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. They are:

Army National Guard marks anniversary with flag ceremony in Carson City

The Nevada National Guard held its annual Flag Day ceremony today at the Veterans Memorial Wall at the state capitol complex in Carson City to pay honor and respect to the stars and stripes and to mark the 235th anniversary of the U.S. Army.

Carson City Arbor Day 2010 Celebration

The Carson City Shade Tree Council will be hosting its annual Arbor Day Celebration on April 30, 2010. The celebration will be held in the park across from the State Library on the corner of Stewart and Musser Streets and will begin at 5:30 p.m. and is scheduled to last an hour.
