Triskaidekaphobia: one of those fun words that I very rarely get the opportunity to use. The fear of the number 13 may be a real thing, but you’ll have no reason to fear boredom on this Friday the 13th. This month’s TRIAD program will explain the various services offered by the Nevada Humane Society, many of them available a low cost. Break a leg to those talented members of our community taking the stage tonight: Senior Follies begins its three-show run this evening.

There are five of these serving the Carson City Sheriff's Office, and I was humbled to be able to meet them Saturday at a retirement celebration for one of their own.

Carson City Nevada Triad presents Love is a Four-Legged Word, a presentation designed to help people learn about the Nevada Humane Society animal services, vaccination clinics and low-cost programs designed to help people with fixed incomes held at the Carson City Senior Center, 911 Beverly Drive, on Friday, July 13 at 11:45 a.m.

The Carson City Sheriff's Office celebrated the retirement of one of its own Saturday afternoon at the Nevada Humane Society in Carson City.

Time to get July off to a fun start. The downtown Wine Walk is a great way to spend the day exploring new shops, galleries, and restaurants. If you’re feeling competitive, head down to the Carson Mall for their watermelon and hot dog eating contests. The summer concerts at the Brewery Arts Center continue with a singer/songwriter showcase.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit and the Nevada Humane Society are teaming up to encourage adoptions and celebrate the successful career of Rex, the Carson City Sheriff’s Office K-9.

Each day, Nevada Humane Society has dozens of cats and kittens arrive at the shelter. This time of year, those numbers are especially high — and right now your help is needed as the supply of cat and kitten food is running critically low.

The Pets of the Homeless annual wellness veterinary clinic at Friends in Service Helping, also known as FISH, on Saturday May 19 in Carson City was a success, organizers say.

I may be dating myself, but I’ve got John Denver’s voice stuck in my head singing ‘Plant a tree for your tomorrow.’ It’s Arbor Day, so Mayor Bob Crowell will be doing just that, planting a tree in Mills Park. The kids of Wild Horse Children’s Theater continue their successful run of Junie B. Jones at the Brewery Arts Center - it’s their final weekend, so don’t miss out. Maddie’s Adoption Days is a state-wide event trying to find forever homes for dogs and cats; you’ll find several local shelters and rescues participating in the free adoption days.

I’ve been lied to before, most often by my weather app on my cell phone, and yet, I still look to it for truth. If it's to believed, springtime arrives tomorrow. I think we are all ready for some warmer, sunny days. Western Nevada College is hosting a reception for the student artists whose work is now adorning their gallery walls, go take a gander. You’ll probably want to layer up if you join Muscle Powered on today’s hike from Ash Canyon to Kings Canyon. It might be a little chilly, but the views of our valley are worth it.

The Carson City Animal Shelter is closed for business today because of heavy snowfall in the region, Nevada Humane Society Communications Director Kimberly Wade said.

Over the last two months in Northern Nevada, there have been 80 new cases of canine influenza reported.

Due to this increase, and for the health of all dogs, Nevada Humane Society is now offering the canine influenza vaccine at a weekly vaccine clinic for just $20.

Meet at 9 a.m. in the open dirt area near the Nevada Humane Society on Airport Road and Butti Way. The path is 0.8 miles one way, and it takes you along the freeway to North Lompa Lane.

All walks are 1-2 miles with duration of one hour with usually negligible elevation gain, and frequently on paved or smooth paths.

Valentine’s was yesterday, but you can fall in puppy love any day of the year. CASI, the Carson Animal Shelter Initiative, does some great things for the shelter animals in our valley. Learn how you can get involved during their monthly meeting at the Nevada Humane Society. The International Film Weekend brings a slice of life from around the world to our own Bob Boldrick Theater. You’ll get the chance to see some great independent documentaries, in addition to award-winning films from other cultures.

Every now and then someone special touches your heart. Right now, that someone is Meringue. She arrived at Nevada Humane Society barely a week ago, less than 32 ounces in size, fitting in the palm of your hand. She was fighting for her life and she was in shock.

A community is what a community does, and ours is filled with people that do amazing things for others. We may be two weeks into 2018 but resolutions are still going strong. We work as humans to better our lives; how many of you do the same for your pets? New Year resolutions are a long tradition.

As part of its 2017 Pay It Forward initiative, United Federal Credit Union employees donated more than $1,200 to local families and organizations across northern Nevada, company officials announced Tuesday.

Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong announced his bid for re-election Friday. Furlong has served as the 27th Carson City Sheriff since 2003.

Berg, an abandoned, neglected and scared white poodle had seen better days.

Happy Anniversary to Nevada Humane Society in Carson City. One year ago, on Oct. 4, 2016, a brand new animal shelter opened in Carson City. Since then, more than 850 dogs, cats and small animals have found amazing new homes.
