Triskaidekaphobia: one of those fun words that I very rarely get the opportunity to use. The fear of the number 13 may be a real thing, but you’ll have no reason to fear boredom on this Friday the 13th. This month’s TRIAD program will explain the various services offered by the Nevada Humane Society, many of them available a low cost. Break a leg to those talented members of our community taking the stage tonight: Senior Follies begins its three-show run this evening.

I may be dating myself, but I’ve got John Denver’s voice stuck in my head singing ‘Plant a tree for your tomorrow.’ It’s Arbor Day, so Mayor Bob Crowell will be doing just that, planting a tree in Mills Park. The kids of Wild Horse Children’s Theater continue their successful run of Junie B. Jones at the Brewery Arts Center - it’s their final weekend, so don’t miss out. Maddie’s Adoption Days is a state-wide event trying to find forever homes for dogs and cats; you’ll find several local shelters and rescues participating in the free adoption days.

I’ve been lied to before, most often by my weather app on my cell phone, and yet, I still look to it for truth. If it's to believed, springtime arrives tomorrow. I think we are all ready for some warmer, sunny days. Western Nevada College is hosting a reception for the student artists whose work is now adorning their gallery walls, go take a gander. Snow closes Carson City Animal Shelter

The Carson City Animal Shelter is closed for business today because of heavy snowfall in the region, Nevada Humane Society Communications Director Kimberly Wade said.

Canine influenza vaccine now offered at Nevada Humane Society

Over the last two months in Northern Nevada, there have been 80 new cases of canine influenza reported.

Due to this increase, and for the health of all dogs, Nevada Humane Society is now offering the canine influenza vaccine at a weekly vaccine clinic for just $20.

Come and join us for our weekly one-hour walks to enjoy Nevada outdoors around Carson City!

Meet at 9 a.m. in the open dirt area near the Nevada Humane Society on Airport Road and Butti Way. The path is 0.8 miles one way, and it takes you along the freeway to North Lompa Lane.

All walks are 1-2 miles with duration of one hour with usually negligible elevation gain, and frequently on paved or smooth paths.

Water and closed-toe shoes required. If it rains or snows, meet at the Multi-Purpose Athletic Center (MAC) at 1860 Russell Way. Contact Alyce Cloutier at klute89706@gmail.com.

Wednesday highlights first year of new Carson City Animal Services shelter

Happy Anniversary to Nevada Humane Society in Carson City. One year ago, on Oct. 4, 2016, a brand new animal shelter opened in Carson City. Since then, more than 850 dogs, cats and small animals have found amazing new homes.
