Former investigative reporter Frank Mullen to channel Dan DeQuille at Gold Hill Hotel
Submitted by editor on Mon, 02/27/2017 - 11:22amJournalist Frank X. Mullen will channel a colleague from the past March 3 at the Gold Hill Hotel’s Friday Night Showcase when he offers a presentation on “Dan DeQuille, The Washoe Giant.”
DeQuille was a compatriot of Sam Clemens, aka Mark Twain, when both worked at the Territorial Enterprise in the 1860s. However, unlike Twain, DeQuille stayed on the Comstock for more than 30 years, and didn’t achieve the fame of his fellow journalist Twain.

Mary Pickford was America’s Sweetheart. Pickford was an actress on the stage and in film, a writer, a producer, a director, and co-founder of a movie studio. She socialized with Hollywood’s most famous stars and married a swashbuckling film hero, Douglas Fairbanks. In 1955, Mary Pickford published her autobiography, Sunshine and Shadows. In this presentation, Pickford will discuss her book and her life.

Carson City Fire Chief: Arson likely responsible for fires at historic Foreman-Roberts House
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Mon, 08/29/2016 - 6:00amUPDATE 4:15PM From Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong: The Carson City Fire Department and Sheriff’s Office responded to two arson-related fires at the Foreman-Roberts House Museum over the weekend. The first fire was reported on Sunday morning at approximately 2:34 a.m., damaging primarily the east side of the structure. On Monday morning at approximately 4:29 a.m., another fire was reported, this time the origin site was located on the south side of the building. The two incidents have resulted in moderate damage to the building.

There has been much press and he has a very good writer who accentuates his few highly selective non-controversial votes while in the legislature and ignores the bulk of his decisions. Obviously our action is not due to his non-challenging votes but rather his many dubious ones. He does not acknowledge his campaign promises. He does not discuss attending a CCRP meeting at which he asked for our direction on this tax issue.

The inventor of riveted pants came to the American West from Russia, via the Canadian wilderness, Clemence said, with business ventures along the way. A distant relative of Davis’ wife, Annie Packscher, Clemence has conducted extensive research into the intriguing family. Fashion, fabric and function resulted in the work pants that became a famous part of Nevada history.

Residents and travelers in the Sierra Nevada endure some of the most brutal winter storms in the world. Snowfall measured in feet, 180 M.P.H. wind gusts, and destructive avalanches. In 1890 extreme winter storms dumped 65 feet of snow and crushed railroad operations over Donner Pass.
