Carson City supervisors to discuss funding allocations, budget augments

The next Carson City Board of Supervisors meeting will be held Thursday, June 6, beginning at 8:30 a.m. in the Sierra Room of the Community Center, located at 851 E. William Street.

To be discussed are funding, contract purchases, grants, special event costs, and more.

Sunday, August 2: Things to do around Carson City

Sundays are a great day to hit up the Carson City Library now that it’s open seven days a week. A viewing of the movie Persepolis begins at 2 p.m. and is about a young girl during the Iran Revolution in the 1970s. Pop-up Storytime is great choice for younger patrons.

The Fair at Fuji Park and the Silver Dollar Classic at Mills Park are still going strong. While you’re at Mills Park, take a ride on the train: rides begin at noon. Genoa is a great place to spend an afternoon. This month’s Sweet Sippin Sunday features Tequila cocktails and music by Carson’s own, Janera Paxton of the Whitehats. Mozart lovers won’t want to miss TOCATTA at the Shepard in the Sky Church for their Mozart in the Mountains concert.

Nevada Fair Kicks off day 3 with events, activities related to state culture

From livestock showings to face painting and weaving, the Nevada Fair in Carson City attracts thousands to learn about Nevada culture and spend time in the community.

The four day event features livestock exhibits, local food vendors, carnival rides, games and live entertainment. Guests can park at Casino Fandango to be shuttled to the fair location at the Fairgrounds in Fuji Park. Tickets for an all day ride wristband can be purchased at the fair. Festivities began Thursday and will continue through Sunday.

The weekend has arrived and it’s bringing a plethora of activity with it. Car lovers will want to head to the Silver Dollar Car Classic at the Max Casino, known as the Carson Station just a few days ago. The Classic moves to Mills Park for the weekend. If the Mustangs and Broncos you prefer are horses, rather than Fords, you’ll want to grab a ticket to the Bull Riding Competition at the State Fair. Carnival rides, circus performances, and live music will keep everyone entertained. Make sure to catch the shuttle from the Casino Fandango parking garage: parking at Fuji Park is extremely limited. ‘Break a leg’ to the cast of Peter Pan. Youth Theater Carson City opens tonight at the Community Center.

Nevada Fair is offically open

The Nevada Fair at Fuji Park is officially open. Reno Aces mascot Archie cut the ribbon at noon on Thursday, flanked by fair organizers and members of the Carson City Board of Supervisors.

Returning for the second year, the Nevada Fair runs today through Sunday. The premium book is open at NevadaFair.com for entries in the livestock shows as well as other competitions, including home arts, cooking, homespun items and sewing. There's also carnival rides.

Let’s all go to the Fair! The grand opening and ribbon cutting is at Fuji Park at noon. Funnel cakes, clowns, rabbits, circus games and more await. If you’re a classic car lover, then the Plaza Hotel is the place for you. The annual Silver Dollar Car Classic kicks off tonight with music and more before it moves on to its traditional place at Mills Park. High temperatures will reach into the upper 90s and near triple digits around Carson City, Carson Valley and Dayton areas by the end of the week with a chance for thunderstorms going into the weekend, according to the National Weather Service in Reno.

Seventy-five years ago today, Bugs Bunny made his cinematic debut. Plenty of other animals will be in the spotlight starting Thursday when the Nevada Fair hits Fuji Park. In addition to the free events like the circus, animal shows, and live music, there will be some special events that require tickets. Head over to the Carson Visitor Center on North Carson St. for pre-sale tickets to Bulls and Broncs, the Tractor Pull, or a discounted wristband for a day at the carnival. Carson City and Lake Tahoe area road report: Several closures this week for maintenance

Here is the Carson City area road report for the week of July 27 to August 2, 2015. Beginning Monday Little Lane will be closed from Janas Way to Saliman Road for a reconstruction project. The road will remain closed until project completion. Detours will be marked.

Nevada Fair Tickets on sale at the Carson City Visitors Bureau

Nevada Fair pre-sale tickets are on sale at the Carson City Visitors and Convention Bureau for $20.00. The pre-sale tickets are redeemed at the carnival for a wristband that allows you to ride all day on the day you choose to use it. Wristbands purchased at the fair are also $20. Pre-sale ticket sales will end Thursday.

Carson City's Fuji Dog Park to be closed for 2015 Nevada Fair

Beginning Monday, Fuji Dog Park at 601 Old Clear Creek Road will be closed to the public as a dog park in preparation of the Nevada Fair. The park will reopen for dog use on Wednesday, Aug. 5.
Carson City Parks and Recreation encourages pet owners to take advantage of other "dog friendly" parks and paths in the area. Those parks are:

First Nevada Cavalry, Troop D in conjunction with the Nevada Civil War Volunteers is pleased to announce the inaugural Nevada Civil War Volunteers Horse Soldier Exhibition at the Nevada Fair. This July 30 event will occur at 6 p.m. in the Fuji Park Rodeo Arena in Carson City, Nev.

Limited pre-paid parking pass to Nevada Fair in Carson City on sale Tuesday

The Nevada Fair will have a limited number of prepaid parking passes. There are only 100 passes available. Prepaid reserved parking passes go on sale Tuesday, July 7. They are $20 for one vehicle for all 4 days of the fair.

There is a limited number of 100 passes available, on a first come first serve basis. They are available at the Carson City Treasurer's Office located in City Hall at 201 N. Carson Street.

Volunteers' Smiles Help Bring Fair to Life

Last year volunteers for the Nevada Fair gave 611 hours in celebration of Nevada’s 150th birthday to help bring back a tradition.

The Nevada State Fair began in 1874 and was Nevada’s longest running event until 2010 when it ceased after fundraising efforts ran short. The closure ended a 136-year tradition that was re-established with last year’s event.

Preparations underway for Nevada Fair

Those interested in entering the livestock and other competitions in this summer's Nevada Fair in Carson City may now do so at nevadafair.com, organizers said. The premium book is open for entries in the livestock shows as well as other competitions, including home arts, cooking, homespun items and sewing.

Dates announced: Nevada Fair celebration in Carson City July 30 through August 2

The Carson City Parks and Recreation Department is gearing up in preparation for the second year of the Nevada Fair. This year’s event will be held July 30 through August 2 at the Carson City Fairgrounds at Fuji Park, 601 Old Clear Creek Road.
