Final days for Jazz & Beyond Festival

The Jazz & Beyond - Carson City Music Festival concludes with nine events on Saturday, August 22, and four events on Sunday August 23.

Saturday events are:

Music in the Market – Barbara Baxter - 8:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m. at Third & Curry St. Farmer's Market. Barbara Baxter sings soul-laced jazz with Jimmy Vermilion on piano.

Friday lineup: Carson City Jazz festival features Count Basie tribute among 3 venues

Jazz & Beyond, Carson City Music Festival, continues on today, Friday, with three free events. The main, special event is the Count Basie 111th Birthday Bash, 8 to 10 p.m., on the Third Street Stage between Carson and Curry Streets in Carson City.

The Music Festival began in 2004 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the birth of William "Count" Basie, Aug. 21, 1904-April 26, 1984.

Jazz and Beyond festival features CCAI Art in the Lobby on Tuesday

As part of the citywide music festival, Jazz & Beyond, the Capital City Arts Initiative will host artists selling their art, 5-7pm, in the Carson City Community Center lobby, Tuesday, August 18 prior to the 7pm "Music of Motown" concert. The lobby will open at 5pm and the public is cordially invited.

Hot August Summer Sipping Saturday at the Downtown Carson City Wine Walk

Summer fun looks like a wine walk, thanks to the Downtown Business Association. Saturday, August 1, the festivities begin at 1 p.m., rain or shine. You have until 5 p.m. to hit as many stops as possible before the raffle begins. Every first Saturday over thirty shops, restaurants, businesses, and organizations stock up on wine and goodies and throw open their doors to the crowds of merry-makers. It's always a great reason to explore downtown.

The wine walk runs from 1pm to 5pm. Sign up at the Carson Nugget, Cactus Jacks, Bella Fiore Wines, Carson Jewelry and Loan, Remedy's Bar, or Touched by Angels.

Jazz and Beyond Carson City Music Festival to feature Motown events

A highlight of the 2015 Jazz & Beyond Festival will be a two-part Motown special. First is a free lecture-demonstration by musician-educator John Shipley. It will feature music, visuals, a guitar raffle, a no-host bar, and a guest appearance by Lloyd Williams of Otis Day and the Knights on Monday, August 17, at the Brewery Arts Center.

The second part of the Motown special is a ticketed concert showcasing Williams, the original singing voice from the hit movie Animal House, on Tuesday, August 18, 7 p.m., at the Carson City Community Center, 851 E. William Street in Carson City.

Millennium Bugs Jazz Combo plays Artown Wednesday in Reno

The Millennium Bugs, a five-piece combo affiliated with the Mile High Jazz Band, will play traditional jazz in an Artown concert on Wednesday, July 22, 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., inside St. James Infirmary in Reno. The venue, a casual spot with a vintage feel, serves eclectic mixed drinks and beer inside and on the rooftop deck. Admission is free.

Band members are Dan Lancaster on saxes, clarinet, and flute; Gil Linsley on trumpet and flugelhorn; David Bugli on keyboard and trombone; George Worth on bass and trombone; and Hal Little on drums.

Classical guitarist performs Hollywood film scores at 2015 Lake Tahoe SummerFest

Carson City sheriff’s log: Woman tells deputies she was going to sell meth at music festival

A Kentucky woman was jailed Wednesday on burglary and multiple felony drug charges after being caught allegedly stealing merchandise from Walmart, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
The woman, Lacey Min Hehl, 30, told officers she had planned to sell methamphetamine, found among her belongings, in order to go to a music festival in Arkansas.

Registration underway for 21st Carson City Gourmand Golf Scramble

Registration is underway for the 21st Gourmand Golf Scramble. The tournament, which is hosted by the Cracker Box, Café at Adele’s and Js’ Old Town Bistro, benefits the Carson City Community Counseling Center.

This year’s event takes place on Sunday, May 31, on the Eagle Valley West Course. Registration is $150 and includes breakfast, a gin fizz, lunch, gourmet treats along the course, and a fabulous tee prize. All skill levels are encouraged to play.

This exciting program features eight seasons: "The Four Seasons" by Antonio Vivaldi and "The Four Seasons in Buenos Aires" by Astor Piazzolla. Both are directed by David Bugli and feature guest violin soloist Stephanie Sant'Ambrogio and narrator Rita Geil. STRAZZ youth strings will join the orchestra in Vivaldi's Autumn and Winter.

It's "big-band jazz times three" when the Mile High Jazz Band, Carson High Jazz Band, and Carson Middle School Jazz Band present the 12th annual combined concert, the Mile High-Carson High Jazz Extravaganza..

The Extravaganza is Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2015, 7 p.m., in the Bob Boldrick Theater at the Carson City Community Center, 851 E. William Street. The event is sponsored by the Mile High Jazz Band Association and the Carson City Band Association as a benefit for Carson High instrumental music programs.

South Lake Tahoe police arrest SnowGlobe laborer for stealing smart phones from lost and found

South Lake Tahoe police have arrested a contract laborer from Reno who confessed to stealing more than $17,000 worth of smart phones lost during the SnowGlobe Music Festival.

Jermaine Williams, 38, faces a felony charge of grand theft after admitting to the theft, a South Lake Tahoe Police officer said. The suspect functioned as an independent contractor laborer hired to help disassemble the mobile structures associated with the Snowglobe event.
