The Jazz & Beyond - Carson City Music Festival concludes with nine events on Saturday, August 22, and four events on Sunday August 23.
Saturday events are:
Music in the Market – Barbara Baxter - 8:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m. at Third & Curry St. Farmer's Market. Barbara Baxter sings soul-laced jazz with Jimmy Vermilion on piano.
Music at the Mall – Carson Dreamers - 1:00-3:00 p.m., at Carson Mall (inside), 1200 S. Stewart St. The Carson Dreamers is a dynamic quartet that performs original compositions along with a sprinkling of Latin jazz tunes and some re-imagined standards. Musicians are Rocky Tatarelli on tenor sax, Craig Fletcher on guitar and vocals, Mick Valentino on guitar, and Niall McGuinness on Latin percussion. For information about Rocky and Craig's Carson Dreamers' recordings, A Rose for My Love and Everybody On the Dance Floor, see http://www.cdbaby.com/Artist/CarsonDreamers.
Me & Bobby McGee – 1:45-2:45 p.m. at Comma Courtyard, 312 S. Carson St.
Me & Bobby McGee are June Joplin and Bob Reid, purveyors of sublime classics from the Great American Songbook. June, who's equally at home in a mink coat or blue jeans and high-heeled pumps, has the voice and the heart for the timeless classics—a smooth, smoky, passionate style that's part diva, part rapture, part pure sizzle. Bob backs her up with soulful accompaniments he's honed over years of listening to and playing the great songs of our time. Together, they imbue their performances with the qualities of the songs they love—timelessness, elegance, and class. Free. http://www.me-and-bobby-mcgee.com
Under the Radar - 3:00-4:00 p.m. at the Third Street Stage (between Carson and Curry Streets). Under the Radar is a jazz-funk-rock-blues band formed in 2010 after winter jam sessions at a boathouse on the shores of Lake Tahoe. The fireside jam sessions became popular among locals and visitors from around the world. Band members have created a composite tone with a niche sound, influenced by Tower of Power; Earth, Wind & Fire; The Crusaders; Herbie Hancock; Santana; Hendrix; Average White Band; Miles Davis; David Sanborn; and Grover Washington Jr. Band members are Dallas Phillips on sax, David "Fez" Duffie on bass, Richard John on guitar, and Mike Badinger on drums. Free. http://www.UTRtahoe.com
The Fantods - 4:15-5:15 p.m., at Comma Courtyard, 312 S. Carson St. The Fantods are a trio from Reno, Nevada. They play old, somewhat damaged instruments in a style that might best be described as Hillbilly-funk fusion or eclectic-jam-Americana. Their repertoire of mostly original music runs the gamut from tightly arranged countryesque songs in the vein of Ryan Adams and Tom Waits (as if there were such a vein) to extended high-energy improvisations featuring the violin, mandolin, and guitar of Ben Wilborn, the upright and downright funky bass of Joe McKenna, and the assorted percussion of David Newman. No Comprende - 5:30-6:30 p.m. on the Third Street Stage. The dynamic Latin-jazz ensemble No Comprende takes the stage for an amazing program of fresh, original music that combines exciting Afro-Cuban rhythms with jazz harmony to create a high-energy sound that is fun for listening and dancing. Performing in the Reno-Tahoe area since 1991, the group features Dallas Smith, sax, flute; Kris Landrum, keyboard; Eric Middleton, vibes, percussion; Hans Halt, bass; Eric Finkelstein, drums; and Cody Remakulas, congas. Graham Marshall Band - 6:45-7:45 p.m., at Comma Courtyard, 312 S. Carson St. Jazz violinist Graham Marshall, a student at the University of Nevada, Reno, began playing violin at age five and developed a serious interest and appreciation for jazz at age ten. He honed his skill at Moody's Jazz Camp every year, and now plays with bands in Reno, Truckee, and Carson City, as well as with his own quartet. In 2014, Graham's band was featured in a Sunday Jazz Pool Party concert sponsored by For The Love of Jazz at the Sands Regency in Reno. With Graham today are Jef Derdarian, trumpet Dave Strawn, bass, and Greg Lewis, drums. Free.

King St. Dust In My Coffee is a cowboy band that plays original songs about real cowboy life and the folklore of the North American west. Freshly blended with Celtic flavor, this Country Music band will leave you hungry for more. This concert is one of the BAC's monthly Bluegrass and String Band Concert Series.
