CARSON CITY — Beginning Sept. 23, single lane closures will be in place and commercial trucks will temporarily be prohibited from traveling westbound over the Mt. Rose Highway summit (State Route 431) as part of continuing Nevada Department of Transportation roadway improvements.

UPDATE 8PM: Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District says the Temelec Fire, now contained, was likely caused by a car fire. Multiple agencies responded including Carson City Fire Department, BLM, Reno Fire Department, Sparks Fire Department, and the U.S. Forest Service. Four aircraft supported fire suppression. Officials say the aim is to have northbound I-580 at Bowers Mansion opened by 8:30 p.m.

Overnight road closures will take place on State Route 28 south of Incline Village June 17 and 18 as the Nevada Department of Transportation places final roadway striping as part of installation of the State Route 28 shared used path.

Both directions of SR 28 will be closed between Lakeshore Boulevard in southern Incline Village and the U.S. 50 junction from 8 p.m.-6:30 a.m. nightly June 17 and 18 as final roadway striping is placed on the highway.

Chains or traction tires are required on the following road ways in and out of Carson City Friday:

— Interstate 580 through Carson City, from the Spooner Junction at South Carson Street to Eastlake Blvd at the top of Lakeview Hill.

— U.S. Highway 50 from the Highway 395 junction at William Street to Deer Run Road in Carson City, and mile post 14 in Carson City to mile post 10.8 in Churchill County.

Join us on this leader-led hike to Galena Falls. An easy intermediate hike for those of you who like shorter hikes. This is a busy, popular trail at a high elevation, with spectacular views of Lake Tahoe and a beautiful waterfall at our endpoint. This will be a 5-mile hike round-trip with a little over 500' gain through the hike.

This single track trail begins near the parking lot at the top of Mt. Rose Highway. Most of the trail is dirt but some areas are a bit rocky. This event will be about 4-5 hours which includes transportation time from Carson City, plus hike and snack time.
