On Monday, April 24, author and meditation instructor Molly Dahl is bringing a new workshop to The Studio at Adams Hub, designed to help participants create healthier, more balanced lives. Dahl, whose 2015 book Youth Positive, Exploring the Unique Genius of Every 21st Century Adolescent shared emotional-balance tactics for teens, is now setting her sights on the area’s stressed-out adults.

Easter weekend is almost upon us and there are a multitude of egg hunts and festivities to choose from. Whether you live in Carson City, Dayton, or Douglas County or fancy the Easter bonnet and pet parade in Virginia City, there’s something in your neighborhood. Watch the Gonzaga Bulldogs take on the UNC Tar Heels tonight at 6 p.m. If you find yourself at the Fox Brewpub you may be one of the two lucky people with a chance at free beer for a year. Find out what the city has planned as they walk you through the upcoming budget offered at two public open house presentations. It’s a firefighter kind of day. Not only will they be honored at today’s Legislative Session, Firehouse Subs is hosting a fundraiser for the Fritch Elementary School’s PTA.

Get your boogie on at Carson Lanes: country dance lessons are every Tuesday and Wednesday in their Eleventh Frame Lounge. It’s a jazzy night at Living the Good Life or rockin with Ev Musselman at the Max Casino. The upcoming Citywide Film Competition is the focus of this month’s Wired Wednesday meeting. If you have interest in digital arts and filmmaking, then you are welcome to join in the fun.

Like many of you, I have a weather app on my phone. It says to expect some snow this morning, so I’m hoping it’s a liar. Make Monday easy on yourself and let the Pizza Factory take care of dinner. A portion of today’s proceeds will be donated to Paul Guzetta, a 36 year old local man who is battling an infection in intensive care. Lending a hand to his wife and kids during this tough time is as easy as ordering a pizza (or one of their yummy salads or pasta.) Once you have a full, happy belly, check out karaoke at the Fox Brewpub or swing dance night at El Charro Avita.

The first day of spring is here, and while it may not mean the end of the snow, it is a harbinger of longer days ahead. Carson kids and the students of Western Nevada College have a reason to celebrate – spring break is here. The State Legislature has an exhibit on display celebrating the 100th Anniversary of Women in the Military, in addition to several works of art by Nevadans, so make a special trip to check it out. The High Sierra Swing Dance Club meets every Monday at El Charro Avita for an evening of dancing and learning something new.

I’m still looking for some springtime, and these next sunny few days might just do the trick. Take a break from the workweek with something fun. Grab some friends or your favorite date and enjoy Ev Musselman on stage at the Max Casino or a Jazz Jam with Rocky and Judith at Living the Good Life. For classic movie lovers, you can catch ‘All About Eve’ at the Galaxy Theater. Who has two thumbs and is ready for spring? This girl. Monday starts off with some icy roads so please give yourself some extra time to travel. It’s going to be quite a blustery day, but hopefully we’ve seen the end of the wet stuff for a little while. Start the week off with some fun. You can swing dance the night away at El Charro’s, sing the workweek blues at the Fox Brewpub’s karaoke night, or help Sassafras welcome guitarist Ian Moore to the stage.

• Opportunity Village Day at the Nevada State Legislature

We’ll wake up to sunshine, but some snow may be in the cards this afternoon. Please drive safe when it’s slick out. ‘Our Story, Inc.’ takes you on a tour of Black History in Northern Nevada in the foyer of the Legislature; they’ll be on hand at the Carson Library this evening for a special Black History Month Celebration. Get a jump on spring cleaning and lend a hand to the Big Brothers, Big Sisters program. You’ll find their clothing drive at Red’s Old 395 from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. Show off your skills at Retro Replay if you fancy yourself a Smash Bros.

Another day off for the schoolkids and state workers and, you guessed it, it’s going to be rainy. If you need to get out for a little fun tonight, head to the Carson Cigar Company for their weekly Game Night. Dancing the night away with the High Sierra Swing Dance Club is always a good Monday option.

Fingers crossed, we’ve got a few days without the wet stuff. This winter seems like the song that never ends. We received late word that Saturday's monthly Trash Mob has been canceled. The good news is there's a day-long music fest at the Carson Colony Gym on South Curry is fundraising for the DAPL Water Protectors. Music, art, cinema, comedy and more are on tap for this weekend. Happily ever after is usually dismissed as a Disney movie ending, but bring your Mickey Mouse knowledge to the Carson Library for a family friendly trivia night. Jazz in on the menu at Living the Good Life, in addition to some delicious dinner options. Nevada Health Centers is excited to welcome Amani Altamimi, M.D. to our team in Carson City. She will be an asset to the Sierra Nevada Health Center team and its patients. Dr. Altamimi received her Medical Degree from King Saud University in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

She completed Residency programs at East Orange General Hospital in East Orange, New Jersey and Central Michigan University in Saginaw, Michigan. She is active in several professional organizations including the American College of Physicians and American Geriatric Society.

In the hustle and bustle of getting presents bought, healing from a respiratory infection, and doing everything else that makes the holidays merry and bright, I drew an absolute blank for a topic for my column until last night. It wasn’t until I met with a client of mine that I got served up some of my own gravy. She said, "be present."

Beginning Dec. 19, Deborah Stevenson offers a refreshing, new class, featuring simple movements and guided meditations done sitting in a chair.
This form, called Sheng Zhen Qigong, is suitable for beginners who have an interest in meditation but "can't sit still." More advanced meditators will find it adds a whole new dimension to their experience, for it closely parallels lovingkindness practice. Its purpose is to open and purify the heart. Sheng Zhen means unconditional love.
