Local Author Offers New Workshop to Cultivate Emotional Balance and Improve Relationships

On Monday, April 24, author and meditation instructor Molly Dahl is bringing a new workshop to The Studio at Adams Hub, designed to help participants create healthier, more balanced lives. Dahl, whose 2015 book Youth Positive, Exploring the Unique Genius of Every 21st Century Adolescent shared emotional-balance tactics for teens, is now setting her sights on the area’s stressed-out adults.

Watch the Gonzaga Bulldogs take on the UNC Tar Heels tonight at 6 p.m. If you find yourself at the Fox Brewpub you may be one of the two lucky people with a chance at free beer for a year. Find out what the city has planned as they walk you through the upcoming budget offered at two public open house presentations. It’s a firefighter kind of day. Not only will they be honored at today’s Legislative Session, Firehouse Subs is hosting a fundraiser for the Fritch Elementary School’s PTA.

Like many of you, I have a weather app on my phone. It says to expect some snow this morning, so I’m hoping it’s a liar. Make Monday easy on yourself and let the Pizza Factory take care of dinner. A portion of today’s proceeds will be donated to Paul Guzetta, a 36 year old local man who is battling an infection in intensive care. Lending a hand to his wife and kids during this tough time is as easy as ordering a pizza (or one of their yummy salads or pasta.) The first day of spring is here, and while it may not mean the end of the snow, it is a harbinger of longer days ahead. Carson kids and the students of Western Nevada College have a reason to celebrate – spring break is here. The State Legislature has an exhibit on display celebrating the 100th Anniversary of Women in the Military, in addition to several works of art by Nevadans, so make a special trip to check it out. The High Sierra Swing Dance Club meets every Monday at El Charro Avita for an evening of dancing and learning something new.

Sierra Nevada Health Center announces Dr. Amani Altamimi has joined Carson City team

Nevada Health Centers is excited to welcome Amani Altamimi, M.D. to our team in Carson City. She will be an asset to the Sierra Nevada Health Center team and its patients. Dr. Altamimi received her Medical Degree from King Saud University in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

She completed Residency programs at East Orange General Hospital in East Orange, New Jersey and Central Michigan University in Saginaw, Michigan. She is active in several professional organizations including the American College of Physicians and American Geriatric Society.

In the hustle and bustle of getting presents bought, healing from a respiratory infection, and doing everything else that makes the holidays merry and bright, I drew an absolute blank for a topic for my column until last night. Beginning Dec. 19, Deborah Stevenson offers a refreshing, new class, featuring simple movements and guided meditations done sitting in a chair.
This form, called Sheng Zhen Qigong, is suitable for beginners who have an interest in meditation but "can't sit still." More advanced meditators will find it adds a whole new dimension to their experience, for it closely parallels lovingkindness practice. Its purpose is to open and purify the heart. Sheng Zhen means unconditional love.
