Poco to headline Carson City's Concert Under the Stars benefit for The Greenhouse Project

CARSON CITY — Rusty Young by his own assessment, was born to play music. With half a century of performing, recording and touring with his band Poco, which he co-founded in 1968 with Jim Messina, Richie Furay, Randy Meisner and George Grantham, he’s made good use of his gift.

This weekend, grab mom and the family and come on out to the annual Mother’s Day Plant Sale hosted by The Greenhouse Project, located on the campus of Carson High School.

Due to the event’s growing popularity, the sale is expanding to both Friday, May 10, 2:30 to 5 p.m. and Saturday, May 11, 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Carson City firefighters knock down blaze at Adele's restaurant

UPDATE 7:18AM: Carson City Fire Department knocked down a fire at Cafe at Adele's early Thursday morning. The fire caused damage to a storage room located in the back of the restaurant. No one was at the restaurant at the time and there were no injuries, said Carson City Fire Chief Sean Slamon. The cause is under investigation.

A fire has been reported at Cafe at Adele's on North Carson Street. The fire was reported at 5:19 a.m. by a security guard working for another company who passed by the restaurant and saw smoke. Firefighters are on the scene.

The fire was in the rear of the building, and chef/owner Charlie Abowd said it appears to have started in the laundry storage area. The building was built in 1864, and the restaurant has been in the Abowd family for 41 years.

Concert Under Stars to feature 3 headliners, venue at Carson City's Eagle Valley Golf Course

For the first time in 11 years, the Concert Under the Stars will feature three main acts: Poco, Firefall and Pure Prairie League. “I’m thrilled,” said organizer Karen Abowd. “These are the legends of country rock. The community is really excited about this.”

City staff then filled it with holiday goodies while the Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Nevada donated their creativity to make a banner and snowflakes! At today's Board of Supervisors meeting, Karen's last of 2018, the community, in unison, thanked and acknowledged her tireless efforts in creating a better cultural landscape for Carson City.

You’ll find downtown road-closures to make way for the race routes, a bike expo, beer garden, and a music festival on Saturday.
