Supervisor Schuette to speak at Democratic luncheon

The featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Lisa Schuette, who has held the Ward 4 seat on the Carson City Board of Supervisors since 2021. She is currently seeking reelection to another four year term. In addition to her service on the board, Lisa is also a member of the Audit Committee, the Regional Transportation Commission (RTC), the Carson Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (CAMPO), the Board of Health, the Redevelopment Authority, the Redevelopment Authority Citizens Committee, and the Parks and Recreation Commission.

Pandemic life spurred more animal adoptions in Nevada, but economic difficulties remain a concern

On Friday, March 13, as the state prepared to shut down, the fate of many four-legged, feathered and scaled residents hung in the balance.

Greg Hall, CEO of the Nevada Humane Society, which has a presence in Reno and Carson City, organized a late-night emergency call with staff. They discussed how to operate amid the threat of COVID-19, a potentially lethal virus that carried so many unknowns. Meanwhile, seven hours south, staff at The Animal Foundation in Las Vegas braced for the worst.

The American Cancer Society is hosting a poker run Saturday at Mills Park, and a free lacrosse clinic for kids ages 6-12 will be held at John L. Harvey Field. The Nevada Humane Society is virtually hosting its annual “Adopt a Duck” fundraiser for interested participants. Fifteen Carson City non-profits were awarded nearly $800,000 in COVID-19 relief funding via the CARES act during the Board of Supervisor's meeting held Thursday.

The State of Nevada through the CARES Act has allocated over $10 million in Coronavirus Relief Funds “CRF” to Carson City. Carson City’s Preliminary Plan of Expenditure allocated $1 million to be awarded to non-profit organizations located in Carson City.

Humane Society adjusts 'Adopt a Duck' fundraiser, $10K or car from Carson City Toyota goes to grand prize winner

Each year, the community gathers along the banks of the Truckee River to watch as hundreds of tiny yellow rubber ducks float across the water, and viewers cheer them on.

Adopt a Duck is one of the Nevada Humane Society’s biggest fundraising events of the year, and this year despite COVID-19, it will continue! However, instead of participants gathering on the banks, this year’s event will be live streamed from the Reno Shelter on August 29 at 12 p.m. and will consist of adorable shelter dogs and cats doing adorable activities.

Carson City woman held after fetus of miscarried pregnancy found in freezer

UPDATE: According to an update news release from the Carson City Sheriff's Office, the woman was released from custody and has been cooperative with authorities. Further details will be provided pending the results of the autopsy report, according to the release.

Unauthorized Fireworks are always illegal in Carson City and surrounding region, authorities remind residents

As we head into the July 4 holiday, local law enforcement and fire agencies are warning residents not to ignite fireworks of any kind.

Not only are fireworks potentially dangerous and could start wildfires, private use of fireworks is illegal in Carson City. The Carson City Sheriff's Department will enforce the law to the fullest extent, as lighting fireworks is a misdemeanor offense.
