As one of the Northern Nevada veterans who traveled to Washington, D.C., earlier this month as part of Honor Flight Nevada, Carson City native Don Quilici has been left with memories and faces that he will cherish forever.

A retired United States Marine gunnery sergeant has been named Nevada Veteran of the Month by the Nevada Office of Veterans Services (NOVS).

Frank Reynolds of Carson City was selected by nomination for his work serving fellow veterans both in the community and statewide.

Special moments experienced on Honor Flight trip

Four and a half hours of travel can be draining on anybody, especially for a group of World War Two, Korean, and Vietnam veterans. As their Honor Flight Nevada flight landed in Baltimore, the 80 and 90-year-old men slowly make their wave off the plane, tired and worn from the trip. But the moment they step into the airport, that exhaustion is forgotten and replaced with an overwhelming sense of emotion.

Vietnam veterans honored at ceremony in Carson City

Nevada Vietnam War veterans were honored Saturday in Carson City as dozens gathered in Mills Park to observe the Vietnam Veterans Day of Remembrance and hold a welcome home ceremony at the Nevada Vietnam War Memorial.

Frank Reynolds, current president of the Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA) local chapter 388 in Carson City, opened the ceremony with the Pledge of Allegiance and the chapter’s chaplain delivered the invocation.

Thousands mourn slain Carson City sheriff’s deputy Carl Howell at funeral service

RENO, Nev. — Carson City Sheriff’s Office Deputy Carl Howell was remembered for his heroism and being a “true warrior” by those who knew him best as they shared their memories among thousands of mourners who gathered for a funeral service Thursday at Reno Events Center.

Howell, 35, died Saturday, August 15, 2015 in the line of duty responding to a domestic violence call at an East Carson City home. He was married to wife Rachel and is a father of four children. He was a nine year veteran of the Carson City Sheriff's Office having started serving in March 2006.

Honor Flight Nevada soars with all the right spice at High Sierra Regional Chili Cookoff

With the waft of peppers, onion, tomato and cumin in the air, chili lovers, judges, cooks and volunteers began the 2015 High Sierra Regional Chili Cookoff on Saturday in Carson City with plenty of sizzle. The cookoff and tasting goes until 5 p.m. Saturday and will continue Sunday beginning at 11 a.m. at Glen Eagles Restaurant.
