Students at Western Nevada College were captivated by a very special visitor on Wednesday morning on its Carson City campus. None other than Steve Sisolak, the 30th governor of Nevada, spent part of his busy morning passionately telling students about the respect he has for them and the sacrifices they are making to attend college.

Carson City Sheriff's deputies crack burglary case with two arrests

A man and woman were arrested Wednesday, Feb. 20 and Thursday, Feb. 21, respectively, in connection with a residential burglary investigation in Carson City.

Stephanie Baumgardner and Leonard Martinez, both of Carson City, were taken into custody by Carson City Sheriff's deputies and detectives while investigating the burglary of a disabled resident on Beverly Drive.

Charitable endowment created to benefit Douglas County communities

The Community Foundation of Douglas County has been established as an affiliate fund to the Community Foundation of Western Nevada. Its purpose is to build an unrestricted charitable endowment for the benefit of Douglas County communities. A fund advisory committee of local residents will recommend the annual grants from the invested earning of the endowment.

Carson City Fire Department called to structure fire inside College Parkway apartment

UPDATE 7:58PM: Firefighters have knocked down the fire at a College Parkway apartment complex. Additional resources have been scaled back. No injuries have been reported.

Carson City woman faces multiple charges after vehicle fire in Kings Canyon

A 51-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Saturday afternoon in Kings Canyon on a U.S. Forest Service road for misdemeanor reckless driving, driving with a suspended and revoked license for DUI, alcohol consumption in public and littering, a sheriff's deputy said.

A Carson City man faces a felony charge of battery with a deadly weapon after allegedly stabbing a man Wednesday following an argument at a North Carson Street motel.

Billy Darrell Harris, 67, is being held in Carson City Jail on $30,000 bail. The victim was stabbed on the left side of his chest and was taken to the hospital. His wound was not life threatening.

Firkin Doppelgangers!

The old Lucky Spur building downtown has gone through some changes over the years, from the vacant rats' nest, to Stew's Sportatorium, to its current identity of Doppelgangers. And under it's current name, it's seen many changes.

But now it looks like it will have a new owner and new name. Jim Phalan, owner of Firkin & Fox, will be taking over Doppelgangers and converting it to the Knee Deep Brewing Company.
