Students at Western Nevada College were captivated by a very special visitor on Wednesday morning on its Carson City campus. None other than Steve Sisolak, the 30th governor of Nevada, spent part of his busy morning passionately telling students about the respect he has for them and the sacrifices they are making to attend college.

I've been compiling a list of memorable things people have had to say about Mark Twain for 30 years now, and most of them are from Twain scholars, but a few might surprise you, as being from folks you might recognize.

There’s no real Nevada Day without the Nevada Day Parade, and there’s no parade without parade marshals.

Marshals are an integral part of the parade. They’re on the ground floor making sure that the parade entires are situated before the parade, and they make sure they flow smoothly during the parade.

On Monday morning Mayor Bob Crowell donated $500 to the Carson City Chamber of Commerce 2019 Leadership Institute to help fund this year’s class project, a bee hotel in honor of the community being named the first Bee City USA of Nevada.

A man and woman were arrested Wednesday, Feb. 20 and Thursday, Feb. 21, respectively, in connection with a residential burglary investigation in Carson City.

Stephanie Baumgardner and Leonard Martinez, both of Carson City, were taken into custody by Carson City Sheriff's deputies and detectives while investigating the burglary of a disabled resident on Beverly Drive.

Tuesday is Election Day. So far, it appears over 13,000 Carson residents cast their ballots during early elections, with Republicans seeming to be in the majority of early voters. Click here for full numbers.

Hello Carson City and welcome to Friday, Nov. 2, 2018. It's the end of the work week with events today featuring political gatherings, art showings, a fascinating lecture about Carson City and all things ABBA as tonight is the opening of "Mamma Mia" at the Carson City Community Center.

Friday, Nov. 2 is the last day for early voting in the 2018 Nevada mid-term general elections, which began Saturday, October 20.

The Community Foundation of Douglas County has been established as an affiliate fund to the Community Foundation of Western Nevada. Its purpose is to build an unrestricted charitable endowment for the benefit of Douglas County communities. A fund advisory committee of local residents will recommend the annual grants from the invested earning of the endowment.

UPDATE 7:58PM: Firefighters have knocked down the fire at a College Parkway apartment complex. Additional resources have been scaled back. No injuries have been reported.

Carson City Fire Department and sheriff's deputies were called Saturday night to a structure fire in an apartment building in the 2000 block of College Parkway.

A 51-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Saturday afternoon in Kings Canyon on a U.S. Forest Service road for misdemeanor reckless driving, driving with a suspended and revoked license for DUI, alcohol consumption in public and littering, a sheriff's deputy said.

UPDATE: A ground-breaking ceremony for the new Classy Seconds Thrift Store was held Thursday at the site located at 3591 Gordon Street in Carson City.

A Carson City man faces a felony charge of battery with a deadly weapon after allegedly stabbing a man Wednesday following an argument at a North Carson Street motel.

Billy Darrell Harris, 67, is being held in Carson City Jail on $30,000 bail. The victim was stabbed on the left side of his chest and was taken to the hospital. His wound was not life threatening.

The old Lucky Spur building downtown has gone through some changes over the years, from the vacant rats' nest, to Stew's Sportatorium, to its current identity of Doppelgangers. And under it's current name, it's seen many changes.

But now it looks like it will have a new owner and new name. Jim Phalan, owner of Firkin & Fox, will be taking over Doppelgangers and converting it to the Knee Deep Brewing Company.
