The weekend has rushed by again, but Carson City still offers plenty o’ fun. The new United Federal Credit Union is offering up free Dunkin Donuts this morning as part of their weeklong Grand Opening Celebration. Take a walk with the furry friends at the Littlest Things: ponies and pooches need exercise, too. Carson Cigar Company is the place for laughs: Heads Up is today’s choice for their new game night. Join J and M Productions at the Firkin and Fox. These boys will be bringing over 60,000 songs to choose from for all your karaoke desires.

Hello, Carson City. Don’t let the fact that it’s Monday get you down, there are still fun ways to kick off the work week. The Firkin and Fox hosts karaoke tonight; just remember to use the east or south entrances while construction continues on their new patio. Go searching for ghosts at the Gold Hill Hotel. Get your boogie on with the High Sierra Swing Dance Club at El Charro Avita. Their Spring Ball, Dinner, and Dance is this coming Saturday, and you can go here for ticket information.

Monday has returned, the kids head back to school, and the weather is gorgeous. Add a dose of beautiful to your day with a visit to an art Gallery. You’ll find a new exhibit in the Main Gallery at Western Nevada College. Carson City officials will be on hand today at the Community Center to answer questions and explain what is on the budget for the upcoming fiscal year. While you’re there, take a good gander at the Great Basin Native Artists show on display in the Sierra Room.

The ‘Spring has Sprung’ Art Show opens today at the Nevada Artists Association Gallery at the Brewery Arts Center. Get into the swing of things with the High Sierra Swing Dance Club’s ‘Night Out’ at El Charro Avita. J and M Productions offer over 60 thousand songs to choose from, so karaoke at the Firkin and Fox is always a hit.

Nevada tourism agency partners with Google Maps in trekker campaign

TravelNevada joins the elite club of destination marketing organizations to borrow the Google Street View Trekker to collect images of less-traveled areas in Nevada for use on Google Maps. The areas will also be mapped on the TravelNevada website and available for use by any participating tourism entity, such as the many Nevada state parks that aided in filming.

Take the kids to the Carson City Library for weekly story time and check out CCAI’s Industrial Art Exhibit while you’re there. Today is the last day it will be on display. Hear stories of Old Virginia City at the Gold Hill Hotel. Or take a trip to the Nevada State Museum: the bombing of a Basque village during the Spanish Civil War and the affect it had on the United States is the topic of this month’s Francis Humphry lecture.

Artists in Carson City, statewide bring new life to recyclables

The works of four Carson City artists were recognized Monday in a statewide art contest using recyclable material.
Student artists Stella Thornton and Jessica Preston, and adult artists Lisa Sheppard and Emily J. Cervi were listed as having either placed or received honorable mentions as part of the contest to recognize America Recycles Day.

Deer with stringy rope around antlers makes a stop at Nevada State Capitol grounds

A deer roaming Carson City with thick, black rope or heavy string wrapped around its antlers stopped by the grounds of the Nevada State Capitol building complex Tuesday. These photos above and video below were taken by Connie Higgons Corley of Dayton.

Corley had first encountered the deer during a ghost walk Saturday morning along the west side of Carson City. She contacted area media to bring attention to the plight of the deer. It does appear now that there is less of the tangled netting around its antlers. At one point, the string had covered a side of the deer's face.

Concerns grow as deer with rope wrapped around antlers wanders Carson City's west side

Dayton resident Connie Higgons Corley was preparing for a ghost walk Saturday morning along the west side of Carson City when she saw an adult male deer struggling with black ropes wrapped around his antlers.

Corley said she is concerned the deer is unable to break free from the tangled ropes or thick strings and witnessed it having trouble walking. She suspects the ropes are from Halloween decorations. The deer was spotted Saturday a street over from the Sears-Ferris House on West Third Street.

Downtown Dayton's Haunted Hayride into Nevada History

Take a hayride around downtown Dayton for an evening of Ghostly pioneers telling tales of Dayton's past. Light refreshments served, visit the museum, play kids games. The RAM Clinic begins today. It’s first come first served, so you’ll be in line a while if you’d like to be seen; bring something to snack on and entertain yourself with. Downtown will be the place to be tonight. Notch 8 will be making their first appearance in several months with a show at Westside Pour House. Carson Cigar is still celebrating its 20th birthday, so enjoy live music with Bread and Butter tonight. Comma Coffee will be filled with fun and laughter. The annual Tickled Pink World Dance Open Floor is including a lip sync contest for the first time, so it should be a good time had by all.

La Nae has written several books about “historical paranormal”, a term she uses to describe the history of a particular building. Her book, “Thin Veil Investigations” shares the paranormal findings from ghost hunts on which she has participated. She has also written books about various haunted northern Nevada sites and the spiritual properties of stones.
