UFO/Spaceship Cloud over Dayton. According to Wikipedia these are Lenticular clouds, defined as stationary clouds that form in the troposphere, typically in perpendicular alignment to the wind direction. They are often comparable in appearance to a lens or saucer.

Sunshine and calm skies brought out hot air balloons for another morning over Carson City.

Playing in the snow probably isn’t an option for this weekend, but Singing in the Rain sure is. The kids of Youth Theater Carson City present a junior adaptation of the musical favorite this weekend and next. The Experimental Aircraft Association hosts ‘Young Eagle’ flights every few months at the Carson Airport to give kids 8 – 17 a plane ride to remember. Help out the Dayton Food Bank during their ‘Stuff-a-Cop-Car’ food drive at the Smith’s in Dayton; unexpired non-perishables of all kinds are appreciated. MINDEN — The famed U.S. Navy Blue Angels Flight Demonstration Squadron will be featured at the 2018 Aviation Roundup Airshow, Douglas County and Minden-Tahoe Airport announced Tuesday.

Even Santa Claus enjoys his time aboard Carson City's famed trains. With appearances at the Brewery Arts Center, Santa can be found throughout the area, including the Nevada Railroad Museum. Elsewhere, let the arrows fly during the Clearcreek Bowmen’s Holiday with a Hero fundraising 3-D shoot. Enjoy a Small Town Christmas in Dayton this evening. The festivities take place in ‘Our Park,’ at the western edge of town. An ugly sweater contest, hot chocolate, caroling, tree lighting and home-town fun are on the menu. The rumors of Santa Claus coming to town are true. The jolly old man is making several appearances today, and is feeling photogenic. Take a ride with him at the Nevada State Railroad Museum, join him on the ‘Elf Crawl’ from the Capitol to the Carson Mall, or tell him your wish list at Debug Computers. Adults have a hard choice to make: the monthly downtown wine walk and the Holiday with a Hero Pub Crawl both take place today, and I’m not sure I’d recommend attempting both.

Although Veterans Day was observed yesterday, there are several things today that honor our former members of the military. Battle Born Harley Davidson is throwing an appreciation party complete with food trucks. Virginia City’s annual Veterans Day Parade begins at 11 a.m. and the City of Reno will commence their parade after a short ceremony beginning at 11:11 a.m. You’ll find an abundance of craft fairs in Carson City, Carson Valley, and Dayton. Once a month we hold a fabulous indoor flea market inside the large metal building at Fuji Park on Old Clear Creek road across from Costco in Carson City. Very comfortable inside while you browse the many vendors. This month we are sold out on vendor spaces so the variety of items for sale will be very large. Over 40 vendors will be selling antiques, art, crafts, collectibles, jewelry and so much more! We are open Sat. Nov. 11 from 8-3pm and Sunday Nov.12 from 9-3 pm. It’s a roller derby kind of day. Catch the Carson Victory Rollers at the Carson City Community Center as they scrimmage to raise funds for Moms on the Run. You’ve still got plenty of pumpkin opportunities with the Nevada Railroad Museum’s Harvest Train or the Corley Ranch Harvest Festival in Gardnerville. It’s a classic whodunnit on the big screen. I recently heard an interesting presentation on National Public Radio on citrus greening, a disease that is decimating citrus fruit trees in Florida and other areas.

Leaves turning, wind blowing, and all things pumpkin sprouting up everywhere. It is absolutely autumn in Northern Nevada. Get ready for Halloween with your choice of pumpkin patches. Seeliger Elementary School is hosting theirs for the twenty-fifth year in a row. Take a trip on the V and T Steam Train at the Nevada Railroad Museum, actually take several trips. The annual Harvest Train event offers an all-day wristband that allows for as many rides as you’d like, in addition to museum admission. UPDATE: Airmen from the 152nd Airlift Wing of the Nevada National Guard departed Monday morning for Fort Lauderdale, Florida to provide communications support for Hurricane Irma relief efforts.

I’m going to suggest that you keep this weekend’s plans flexible. There’s only a chance of rain, but the chance of it showing up at the wrong time is always high. The very early morning is best spent watching the hot air balloons against the Reno skyline, but you’ll probably want a sweater for the pre-dawn chill. Head up the hill to Virginia City this weekend. The concerts in the Capital Amphitheater have always been a local favorite: blanket and a picnic are all you need to make the most of this Sunday afternoon. Flashback to yesteryear at the Virginia City ‘Way it Was Rodeo.’ The Trippin King Snakes take the stage at the Genoa Bar Porch Party. Food and drink will be available, and it’s a great way to wind down the weekend.

Make this weekend something special. School starts up on Monday and it will be Halloween before we blink an eye. The Carl Howell Memorial Music Festival at Battle Born Harley boasts a full day of live music, vendors, activities and family fun. Bowers Mansion plays host to the annual Bluegrass Festival – bring a picnic and enjoy. Downtown Carson City will see the first of three monthly Beer Crawls; if you get there early, head over to Remedy’s to witness their yearly Bloody Mary Competition. The Comstock's own Wild West ways will meet up with extreme bronc riding, trick roping, barrel racing, mutton busting and a cowgirl saloon crawl the weekend of Aug. 19-20 when the Way it Was Rodeo returns to the Virginia City Arena and Fairgrounds.

Come on down and spend some time at the flea market inside the big Fuji Park building where it is all air conditioned and comphy. Located across from Costco on Old Clear Creek road, Carson City.

We are open from 8-4 on Saturday August 19 and 9-4 on Sunday August 20. We have the flea market once a month and feature new vendors each time plus some of our favorite vendors who sell jewelry, knives, food, antiques and lots of collectibles.
