Editor's Note: Carson Now asks its readers to use their real name with submissions. We received this submission today from "a concerned citizen." Because of what they found, and the fact that Nevada is generally always in a state of fire danger, we thought we'd let this one slide.

Camping season is upon us, and the weather is getting nice. It's that time of year when people like to get out and have a good time in the great outdoors camping, four-wheeling, hiking etc. It's fun to enjoy our open spaces.
Just remember, it's important to be responsible while we're all living it up outside.

UNR mountaintop camera network tracked 240 western wildfires in 2017, gearing up for 2018

Mountaintop cameras from the University of Nevada, Reno spotted or tracked 240 fires in Nevada and California in 2017. This helped to keep firefighters more situationally aware and able to mount appropriate responses more rapidly over tens of thousands of square miles of forests and rangelands, including rural communities.

Carson City weather: High Wind Warning issued ahead of storm, Red Flag Warning canceled

UPDATE 2:20PM: A Red Flag Warning issued earlier this morning has been canceled due to arriving precipitation. A High Wind Warning remains in effect until 4 a.m. Thursday. A Flood Watch was issued Wednesday afternoon for the Carson City region, western Nevada and Lake Tahoe.

With valley gusts expected to top 70 mph today, the National Weather Service has issued a High Wind Warning and Red Flag Warning for the Sierra Front including Reno, Carson City, Carson Valley and Lyon County.

As of Saturday, I am retiring as the Outdoor Editor for Carson Now and a very special outdoor photographer (my wife Elaine) will also be retiring.
It's been a great run, full of great memories, but sooner or later all good things must come to an end, and Oct. 31 is that special time for the two of us.
