Carson City weather: Red Flag wind warning today as cold front settles in for the weekend
As a low pressure system and cold front approach the region, winds will increase and become strong and gusty Friday afternoon and evening, prompting a Red Flag Warning by the National Weather Service.
Wind gusts could reach as high as 40 mph. These winds will bring an increased fire danger, rough lake waters and turbulent flying conditions.
The weather service advises to take extra precaution to avoid starting new fires and stay off area lakes until conditions improve. Motorists can expect some local reductions in visibility where blowing dust is typically encountered. Slow down and remain alert for the possibility of rapidly changing conditions as well as strong gusty cross winds.
With the low front and wind arriving Friday, daytime temperatures we come down into the mid 70s around Carson City, Carson Valley and Dayton areas.
Saturday will see daytime highs in the mid 60s, with a night time low in the low-30s.
Sunday will be cooler with a slight chance of showers, and daytime highs in the upper 50s with a night time low near freezing and a chance for showers and snow showers around Lake Tahoe.
Conditions will stay cool through Monday with highs in the mid-50s and Tuesday, in the low 60s. Go to the weather discussion page here and check CarsonWeather.com for updates.
