Midnight Madness has descended upon the valley, bringing with it a 72 hour softball tournament at Centennial Park. Don’t be surprised to see more cyclists on the road: an unofficial pre-ride for Epic Rides is this weekend. Head to the Nevada State Railroad Museum to see the Glenbrook all steamed up. McKeen motor car rides in Carson City featured this weekend to mark National Train Day

Nevada’s famous McKeen motor car will roll at the Nevada State Railroad Museum, Carson City, Saturday and Sunday.

National Train Day is celebrated Saturday, May 7, in honor of the driving of the Golden Spike at Promontory, Utah that marked completion of the Transcontinental Railroad in 1869. Operating from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., both days, the McKeen offers passengers an authentic glimpse of its rich and important past.

Sophie Sheppard appearance highlights famous Western paintings and drawings at OXS May 3

The discussion of “A Brushwork Roundup: Western Paintings and Drawings by Craig Sheppard” begins at 6 p.m.

Earth Spirit Faire at Community Center this weekend

Dozens of vendors are displaying their products and services in celebration of the Earth at the annual Earth Spirit Faire held this year at the Carson City Community Center today and tomorrow.

The faire runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Community Center located at 851 E. William Street.

Holiday art contest open to all Carson City students

Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town, and sooner than we may be ready for him! As the Nevada Day festivities ramp us this week and close on Sunday, the frantic holiday season that follows is soon upon us.

As part of the 26th Annual Silver & Snowflakes Festival of Lights to be held Friday, Dec. 4, children of all ages enrolled in any of Carson City’s schools — whether public or private — are encouraged to submit original drawings to win cash prizes and to be featured on the cover of the Silver & Snowflakes special edition published by the Nevada Appeal. Winning art will be on display at the library until after the new year.

'Kick Nic's Cancer' fundraiser Friday and Sunday at Sassafras

There will be two events hosted by Sassafras on Oct. 23 and 25, to provide an opportunity to help raise money for Nichole Millim. Several of the gun clubs that use the Carson City Gun Range have come together to planned a fun filled fundraiser on Oct. 3, 2015.

The day is dedicated to raising funds for future improvements at the gun range. Planned events include; NRA 100-Yard High Power Rifle Match, 200-Yard Target Rifle Match, IDPA shoot, a Three Gun Match, Bragging Rights Challenges, and two 50/50 Poker shoots (one blind for the less experienced shooters).

Comstock museum in Virginia City presents collection of western art by Craig Sheppard

The Comstock History Center Museum in Virginia City will feature a new exhibit beginning Thursday, A Brushwork Roundup: Western Paintings and Drawings by Craig Sheppard. A native of southwestern Oklahoma and former bronco rider in Madison Square Garden, Sheppard was a prime mover in northern Nevada’s cultural community in the years following World War II.

WNC Softball: Wildcats take final game of series at Snow College

After dropping two of the first three games to Snow College by two runs or less, the Western Nevada College softball team found the winning formula in the series finale Saturday in Ephraim, Utah.

WNC outscored Snow, 7-4, to avoid the series sweep in Ephraim, Utah. The win followed 2-0, 11-4 and 6-5 defeats to the Badgers on Friday.

With the victory, WNC remained in fourth place in the SWAC standings with a 14-21 record - one and a half games ahead of Snow. The Wildcats improved to 19-26 overall, with four games remaining against College of Southern Nevada.

WNC Wildcats baseball, softball host 'Stack the Stands' days beginning this week

As the 2015 Western Nevada College baseball and softball seasons near completion, it’s time to come out and cheer on the Wildcats at their last weekend home stands. “Stack the Stands” days will offer outstanding college softball and baseball, along with multiple opportunities to win great prizes while supporting the athletics programs.
