Western Nevada College is now offering a four-year Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Organization and Project Management that provides a career advancement pathway for students who’ve earned an associate degree. The Bachelor of Applied Science degree blends leadership and management studies with 21st century skills such as project management and data informed decision making.

Out of an abundance of caution for public safety, Reno Mayor Hillary Schieve has issued citywide curfews beginning at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 2. The curfew will be in effect nightly from 7 p.m. until 5 a.m. the next morning and will continue until terminated by Mayor Schieve.

A group of protesters, some dressed in military fatigues and open-carrying guns, gathered outside the Governor’s Mansion in Carson City on Saturday to call on Gov. Steve Sisolak to open all businesses.

Now that the filing period for political candidates is over it is time for voters to consider the qualifications and politics of the filed candidates. What sort of person do you want representing you in the various seats that are up for election this cycle?

Nevada Commission for Women and the Nevada Women’s Suffrage Celebration Committee formed to help facilitate collaboration among organizations in Nevada to celebrate and commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the 19th Amendment. As part of her Carson High School Senior Project graduation requirement, student, and committee member, Chloe Walt is working to educate Nevadans on the suffrage movement and the historic importance of the ratification of the 19th Amendment.

The Nevada Commission for Women unveiled a limited edition license plate celebrating women’s suffrage as a commemoration of the 100th anniversary of women gaining the right to vote.

The plate itself is historic to Nevada, as it was the first assembly bill, Assembly Bill 499, to be backed by only women. Bills need a majority vote to pass any legislation, and this session was the first session any state in the country saw a legislature with a female-led majority.

Daughters of the American Revolution, Battle Born Chapter, and Fort Churchill Society, Children of the American Revolution, celebrated Constitution Week on September 15, 2019 with a gathering featuring guest speaker Carson City District Attorney Jason Woodbury, whose topic “Rascals and Rebels: Uprisings that Sparked America” described the struggles that changed history.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region packed with excitement over the next three days. Events include the Silver State Art Festival at Fuji Park, suicide awareness walks in Carson City, a Celtic faire at Dangberg Home Ranch, the ninth annual Edible Pedal bike ride at Bowers Mansion, train rides in Virginia City and much more!

Battle Born Chapter DAR and Ft. Churchill Society Children of the American Revolution invite the public to "Celebrate the Charters of Freedom" this Sunday, Sept. 15, 2019 at 2 p.m. in the Ormsby Room, located in the Sheriff's Office, 911 E. Musser Street, Carson City.

Featured speaker is Jason Woodbury, District Attorney of Carson City who will speak on " Rascals and Rebels: Uprisings that Sparked America."

As Thomas Paine professed, "These are the times that try men's souls." Thomas must be spinning like a lathe. The framers of the Constitution had George Washington in mind when they entrusted authority to the office of chief executive. The framers could not have imagined a Donald Trump, even with stimulants.

“And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes and our sacred Honor.”

Those are the last lines of the Declaration of Independence, adopted by the Second Continental Congress on July 2, 1776. The technology of the day – hand-writing in cursive – delayed the final copies until July 4.

This is my final column on the sad legacy we Boomers are leaving our children.

The first one defined the public interest as mainly maximizing economic growth. That piece and the next showed that the economic policies, practices and institutions that maximize growth also promote fairness among individuals. They also debunked obsessions with income inequality. The third part focused on the 21st Century revival of progressivism and statist liberalism, plus the addition of political correctness (PC).

Here I offer directions for some solutions.

I just returned from Orange, Virginia from a conference held at Montpelier, former US President James Madison's estate. I was chosen among applicants to attend this conference because I think our community needs to know the cool educational opportunities in which teachers are embarking. CARSON CITY — Leaders from 13 Nevada tribes have sent letters to President Donald Trump and Energy Secretary Rick Perry protesting the federal government’s shipment of a half metric ton of weapons-grade plutonium to the Nevada National Security Site without informing state government officials or the tribes.

The Lyon County Board of Commissioners on Thursday unanimously approved a resolution stating its opposition to Nevada's new gun background check law.

The Douglas County Board of County Commissioners approved the adoption of Resolution 2019R- 011, a resolution informing the 80th (2019) session of the Nevada State Legislature that the Douglas County Board of County Commissioners opposes any state legislation which exceeds federal firearm transfer requirements or infringes on the United States Constitution or Article I, Section 11 of the Constitution of the State of Nevada.

Assemblyman Jim Wheeler (R-Gardnerville), Minority Leader, is asking all responsible gun owners, their friends and neighbors who care about the Constitution and gun rights to show up at the Nevada Legislature this Tuesday, February 12 in Room 1214 at 7:30 a.m. to review a bill that will be presented at 8 a.m. in Room 1214.

Assemblyman Wheeler says that it is critical that concerned citizens "share their thoughts in public comment" on this important Second Amendment issue.

While the media and House Democrats will focus their attention on investigating President Donald Trump in 2019, Senate Republicans will concentrate on the long game of reshaping the federal judiciary by confirming as many of President Trump’s judicial nominees as they can in 2019-2020.

CARSON CITY — Two Justices on Monday joined the Nevada Supreme Court and a new Chief Justice has become the administrative leader of the Nevada Judiciary. Justice Abbi Silver and Justice Elissa F. Cadish were sworn in as Justices during an inaugural ceremony this morning in Carson City.

Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval has signed Executive Order 2018-30 to have flags in the state flown at half-staff now until sunset on Dec. 30, 2018 as a mark of respect and in remembrance of the life and service of President George H.W. Bush.
