Music, I have to believe, is the best medicine on the shelf. It cuts down on our doctor bills and keeps us from sourin'. So I went to the Jubilate Holiday Concert in Truckee to cheer myself up and put a spring back in my step. It turned out to be the best decision I could have made.

Today, the Mortimer & Mimi Levitt Foundation named Carson City, Nevada as one of 20 small to mid-sized towns and cities across America to win a Levitt AMP Grant Award of $25K in matching funds to present a free concert series at The Change Companies Stage. The Brewery Arts Center submitted Carson City’s Levitt AMP proposal.

Celebrate New Year's early with TOCCATA: Tahoe Symphony Orchestra and Chorus's new cnocert: "Bring on the Bubbly/Adios 2019." Join us at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 29 in the elegant Genoa Lakes Golf Club Ballroom. Pre-concert champagne and hors d'oeuvres at 3 p.m.

Kenny Chesney fans comprise the No Shoes Nation, and then there is Michael Franti, who always performs barefoot onstage. Both sides will converge at the Lake Tahoe Outdoor Arena at Harveys on Thursday and Friday, July 2 and 3.

Clouds will roll into the capital city region Tuesday keeping temperatures quite chilly. Happenings around town include organized morning and evening fitness walks, a "Stuff the Bus Toy Drive" at Capital Ford, a Planning Commission meeting on the proposed Andersen Ranch development and a Posada event at Mark Twain Elementary. Plus, the Carson City School Orchestra Program will hold its annual Holiday Concert at the community center, The Peanuts Gang Trio will hold a free holiday concert at Sassafras, and more.

CARSON CITY — The Nevada Arts Council announced the awarding of $22,639.60 in statewide grants to support individual artists in the production and presentation of artistic projects that will occur between Jan. 1 and June 30, 2020.

Join local musician Kingwhistler and other local favorites for "Holiday Homeward with Kingwhistler and friends," a concert to celebrate the season.

Kingwhistler will be joined by Jenera Paxton and Josh Procaccini, and other guest musicians include Keith Alan Barnett, Craig Logan, Ross Wylde and Ten Dollar Pony.

Come to Brewery Art Center’s Performance Hall on January 25, 2020 to experience Loud As Folk, hosted by Spike McGuire. This is one night only, and the showcase will be feature performances by Whitney Myer, Jelly Bread’s Dave and Cliff, Mel and Gia, and Tyler Stafford. Be sure to grab your tickets so you don’t miss out.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days. Events include the KTVN Share Your Christmas Food Drive at the Governor's Mansion in Carson City and at Minden's Carson Valley Inn, Homestead Holidays at the Silver Saddle Ranch and more. The Polar Express Train Rides are sold out for the rest of the year, but Santa Train express rides are steaming up at the Nevada State Railroad Museum over the weekend. Read on for details.

With activities lining up around the capital city through the weekend, Thursday events around the region include a meeting of the Healthy Communities Coalition in Silver Springs, an afternoon hike hosted by Muscle Powered, and a Carson City CASA volunteer information hour and training seminar. Along the music front, CHS Band will host its winter concert at the Carson City Community Center and our own local country music star and Nashville recording artist Art Mulcahy will be at Jimmy G's. The Carson High School Band Department, led by William J. Zabelsky, is pleased to present its winter concert at 7 p.m. on Thursday, December 12, 2019 at the Carson City Community Center.

The devil may have gone down to Georgia, but the Charlie Daniels Band is coming to Carson Valley Inn next summer. And so is Tanya Tucker.

It's a Holiday Treat for all and a feast of seasonal and holiday entertainment in many styles. The Carson City Symphony and Carson Chamber Singers, joined by the Victorian Dancers, present the 36th annual Holiday Treat concert this Sunday, Dec. 15 at the Bob Boldrick Theater in the Carson City Community Center.

Embrace your holiday spirit with favorite Christmas and holiday music, including Nutcracker, Let it Go, Sleigh Ride, Carol of the Clocks, and O Holy Night. Featuring Ben Gallagher and Alissa Teachout on piano and percussion, tenor vocalist Adam Teachout, and Angelese Pepper on cello. This concert is for families and individuals of all ages. The Orchestra Program of Carson City School District is holding its Holiday Concert Dec. 17 at 6:30 p.m. at the Carson City Community Center. Just the idea of a concert in Carson City is exciting enough, but it gets even better because this musical event will cost audiences absolutely nothing except a little time and effort getting there. Admission is free.

The Orchestra Program of the Carson City School District will hold its Holiday Concert on Tuesday, Dec. 17, 6:30 p.m. at the Carson City Community Center.

The Bella Voce concert scheduled for today at First United Methodist Church in Carson City at 3:00 pm hass been canceled due to the hazardous driving conditions.

The Capital City Community will, once again, welcome the holidays with a free concert in the Boldrick Theater in the Carson City Community Center on Sunday, Dec. 8 at 3 p.m.

Tahoe Symphony Orchestra and Chorus, also known as TOCCATA, presents its 14th annual performance of Handel’s beloved “Messiah,” along with seasonal carols. Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days. Events include the 31st season of the Nutcracker Ballet, a Feast with a Hero fundraiser at Slot World, Small Business Saturday throughout Carson City and Carson Valley, photos with Santa, a Telegraph Square sign dedication, Polar Express train rides at the V&T Railroad and more!

Enjoy a cherished Northern Nevada holiday tradition, close to home, in an elegant golf club ballroom, a casino theater, or a church – your choice as TOCCATA — Tahoe Symphony Orchestra and Chorus — presents its 14th annual performance of Handel’s beloved “Messiah,” along with seasonal carols.

The votes have been counted and Carson City was picked among 25 finalists competing for a Levitt AMP grant proposal, submitted by the Brewery Arts Center, for its popular free summer concert music series. Winners will be announced Dec. 20, according to an announcement Thursday morning.

This Wednesday, Nov. 20 is the last day to vote support for a Levitt AMP Foundation matching grant that would ensure the return of the Brewery Arts Center's 10-week free, live outdoor music series to Carson City in the summer of 2020.
