Student youth group gives Carson City Grocery Outlet a helping hand

Grocery Outlet in Carson City was given a helping hand this week when youth members of Carson River Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints teamed up to help staff cleanup after the store closed. The youth group meets weekly to learn, have fun and often to provide community service.

Carson City's Karen Abowd, Mary Fischer honored with Girl Scouts of Sierra Nevada Triumphant Award
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Thu, 11/21/2013 - 12:32pmCarson City residents Karen Abowd and Mary Fischer, will be honored tonight at The Atlantis Hotel and Casino, when they receive the Girl Scouts of the Sierra Nevada’s 2013 TRIUMPHANT Awards.
Karen Abowd will receive the Environmental Leader award for her work with The Greenhouse Project, a non-profit community greenhouse located on Carson High School’s campus that teaches sustainability and new agricultural principals and produces food for the community. Mary Fischer will receive the Community Service award for her work with Gardeners Reclaiming Our Waysides (G.R.O.W.), a non-profit she founded in 1997 with the purpose of beautifying area roadways using landscaping and art.

In honor of “Make A Difference Day,” they will perform a community service project with the losing member sporting the opposing team’s sweatshirt and supplying the victor with an appropriate colored Fremont Cannon replica.
Carson City woman jailed on felony witness intimidation charge
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Wed, 10/16/2013 - 11:13amA 37-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Tuesday and faces a felony charge of intimidating a witness.
Rebecca Taylor was booked into Carson City Jail at 2:20 p.m. and is being held on $15,000 bail.
According to the arrest report, officers were dispatched to 400 Saliman Road. Carson City dispatch informed deputies that Taylor had bail conditions not to meet with a man and that she had been at his residence.
Carson City woman arrested for trespassing after being discharged from hospital

Anthony Timothy Abruzzo, 39, a contractor was booked into Carson City Jail on Oct. 6 with a misdemeanor warrant out of Carson City for being in violation of a suspended sentence, failure to report for monthly probation meetings.
Man with four outstanding warrants arrested by Carson City authorities
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Tue, 09/17/2013 - 1:34pmA 26-year-old Carson City man with a felony and three misdemeanor warrants was arrested Sept. 16 in the 3200 block of Imperial Way.
Nicholas B. Parker had warrants for his arrest for possession of a controlled substance, a felony and misdemeanor failure to appear in traffic court out of Reno Township, contempt of court and being arrested while on probation, both out of Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $7,122.

A Carson City man faces felony burglary charges after admitting to stealing items from Home Deport on six occasions and exchanging them for gift cards that he would sell to pay for food and rent while maintaining his drug habit.
Michael McDowell, 49, was arrested Tuesday in the 1400 block of Rand Avenue. According to the arrest report, the Carson City Sheriff's Office was advised by a Home Depot security specialist that she was investigating McDowell for stealing items and returning them to the Home Depot at 3185 Market Street in exchange for gift cards.

Whether its inside the broadcast booth or doing community service outside the booth. There are days that I need to remind myself that I'm not the only one who has expectations of me to succeed.
My own expectations are the toughest for sure, but I am well aware that what I do also impacts others.
I needed to go back and refresh my memory of just who expects me to do well, and who I need to continue to be.
Carson City man jailed after allegedly stealing wire, battery from junk business

The man was arrested at 12:05 p.m. in the 1800 block of Lompa Lane. According to the arrest report, officers were dispatched to the 400 block of Ann Street for a report of a commercial burglary.
Carson City loan manager jailed; admits to stealing $4,200 and taking it to casino
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Fri, 06/07/2013 - 4:00amA 34-year-old Dayton woman faces a felony embezzlement charge after she admitted to authorities that she stole $4,200 from a Carson City loan agency that she managed and then spent a portion of the money at a local casino.
Tonya Ann Ramirez was jailed Wednesday after an interview with Carson City Sheriff's Office investigators which led to the confession. She also told authorities she had a gambling problem and had filed a false police report with the Lyon County Sheriff's Office in an attempt to conceal her actions.
Service today for Nevada advocate for elderly, former Carson City Supervisor Janice Ayres

UPDATE: A funeral service for Janice R. Ayres, a longtime Carson City resident and champion for the elderly and disabled in Nevada, will be held today, Friday, in Carson City at the First Presbyterian Church on the corner of Musser and Division streets.
A gathering for family and friends of Ayres will follow at Cafe at Adele's, 1112 North Carson Street.
Ayres was 92 when she died May 27, 2013.
Nevada advocate for elderly, former Carson City Supervisor Janice Ayres dies

Janice R. Ayres, a tireless advocate for the elderly and the disabled, an unshakable Democrat and former member of the Carson City Board of Supervisors died Monday morning at Carson Tahoe Hospital after battling cancer. She was 92.
Ayres was the executive director of the Nevada Rural Counties RSVP Program, a position she held since 1979. RSVP Board member Charlie Abowd confirmed her passing and said directors will meet Tuesday afternoon to discuss arrangements.
Carson City man jailed after officers find meth stashed in toy action figure
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Fri, 05/24/2013 - 12:42pmA 25-year-old Carson City man faces felony drug charges after a vehicle search netted, among other things, methamphetamine that was stashed inside a toy action figure.
Officers arrested Jesse Silis-Teran at 5:35 p.m. Thursday near Humboldt and Long streets. According to the arrest report, officers patrolling the area heard a group of people yelling at each other and met with three individuals at a parked car.
Carson City authorities make several alcohol-related arrests over weekend

Carson City man jailed on felony domestic battery charge
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Wed, 04/17/2013 - 12:15pmA 47-year-old Carson City man faces a felony domestic battery with strangulation charge after he was jailed Tuesday. Richard Scott Morris was arrested at 6:27 p.m. in the 800 block of North Carson Street. According to the booking report, officers were dispatched to a residence for a reported domestic battery.
On arrival officers met with the victim who told them that Morris had physically battered and strangled her with his hands. Officers observed numerous injuries to the victim's face and neck, the arrest report states.
Carson City woman jailed for DUI drugs, felony battery after vehicle collision
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Mon, 04/08/2013 - 1:17pmA Carson City woman faces a felony charge of battery with a deadly weapon after colliding with a vehicle Saturday afternoon at Ponderosa Drive and and Koontz Lane.
Lisa Spangenthal, age not provided, was booked into Carson City Jail after being arrested at 1:47 p.m. She also faces a misdemeanor charge of driving under the influence of drugs.
According to the arrest report, officers were dispatched to the incident that involved an Oldsmobile Cutlass and a 2011 Hyundai. The Hyundai had major front end damage on the passenger side.

A 25-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Feb. 7, 7:04 p.m. in the 400 block of Simone Avenue on an outstanding felony warrant out of Douglas County.
Dayton man tasered, jailed for punching Carson City deputy in the face

Christopher Scholl was arrested at 2 a.m., Thursday in the 1700 block of Fair Way after a foot chase with officers. According to the arrest report, officers were patrolling the area of Empire Ranch Road and Morgan Mill Road. A vehicle entered the Empire Ranch neighborhood and began driving around and came to stop in front of a home on Fair Way.
Carson City officers arrest men on felony weapon and drug charges
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Tue, 01/15/2013 - 2:19pmCarson City authorities arrested two men, both with felony convictions, on various felony weapon and drug charges after a traffic stop at 11:45 p.m. Jan. 12 in the 1400 block of Rand. A loaded rifle "ready to fire" tucked in the front seat of the vehicle, knives and methamphetamine were confiscated.
Dareck Gregory Pollock, 38, of Wellington, and Robert Lee Hill, 37, of Ridgecrest were taken into custody by Carson City authorities after a search of the men and vehicle turned up the gun, knives and drugs.
Carson City sheriff identifies dead women found in Voltaire Canyon
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Fri, 12/07/2012 - 3:22pmThe Carson City Sheriff’s Office has identified the two deceased females that were discovered dead in Voltaire Canyon on Thursday, Dec. 6. Next of kin notifications are complete.
The women are Monique Evans, 20 and Sandra Leggett, 24. Autopsies have been performed on each.
Fuel dumped results in convictions

The crimes occurred during production of a television series called “Hell on the Highway: Highway Heroes.”
A co-star of the show, William Earnest Slade III, of Stockton, pleaded guilty to one felony and one misdemeanor pollution charge and was sentenced on Nov. 2 to 45 days in Plumas County jail.
He was also ordered to pay more than $1,700 in fines and $4,600 in restitution.
In addition, he will be on probation for three years.
Three arrested on drug charges after text messages revealed sales
Submitted by editor on Sat, 11/03/2012 - 4:55pmAn anonymous tip about a vehicle used in drug transactions and phone text messages about drug sales led to the arrest of three Carson City residents for possession with the intent to sell.
The arrests were made near the area of 700 Hot Springs Road at 1:40 a.m. Oct. 29. According to the Carson City Sheriff's Office arrest report, a deputy was parked outside an apartment building and was speaking with a Capital City patrol officer. A vehicle drove up to the apartment complex that matched the vehicle description provided by the anonymous tipster.
