High school senior, Taylor Weddell is organizing an attempt at the World’s Largest Human Christmas Tree for her senior project. Grab everyone you know and head to Carson High at 10 a.m. Bundle up, and get ready for a good time. Hot beverages will be available to help keep you warm.

The attempt at the ‘World’s Largest Human Christmas Tree' will take place on Saturday, Dec. 19, 2015 at the Carson High School Football Field. Gates open at 10 a.m., and the record attempt begins at 11 a.m. This is an all-ages event, but keep in mind the cold weather and participants must STAND STILL for six minutes for the record to count. Please wear red, green, or brown clothing.

I jumped at the opportunity to participate in an event that brings a community together, raises funds and breaks a world record. It was a little intimidating for sure, but I’m working closely with the Board of Directors of the Carson City Schools Foundation and learning so much in the process.

First things first, though, Thursday fun stuff. Bundle up and head to Gardnerville for the Christmas Kick-off at Heritage Park with Santa, a tree lighting, and fireworks if the weather cooperates. Empty Bowls is hosting a preview night at the First Presbyterian Church; for a donation of $25 or more you get first pick of the handmade bowls that members of the community have made and decorated over the past year, and that includes admission to the soup fest tomorrow.

Fred Nietz, businessman and Carson City community events organizer, dies

He was 71.

Christmas tree cutting permits in the Lake Tahoe Basin go on sale Monday

Permits are $10 each with a limit of two permits per family. Permits must be purchased in person, are not transferable and are sold on a first-come, first-served basis.

You can witness both Carson City's swearing in and the state's ceremony today. As in previous post-holiday years, Christmas trees can be placed curbside on your regular trash collection day or taken to drop off locations.

Carson City sheriff's deputies arrest three on felony robbery and kidnapping charges
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Fri, 12/12/2014 - 11:11amThree people were arrested Thursday on felony charges in connection with an alleged kidnapping and robbery that happened at a Menlo Drive residence on Nov. 23 and may have involved as many as seven people.
Lawrence “Ears” Reagan, 29, Crystal Gonzales-Rubke, 24, and Randall Saucedo, 30, were arrested on warrants issued out Dec. 11 and Dec. 12 of Carson City Justice Court. Each are being held on $200,000 bail. The three are from Carson City.

Christmas season kicks off Dec. 5 with Carson City hometown celebration

Now in its 25th year, the annual event is sponsored by the Carson City Redevelopment Authority as part of their efforts to showcase the downtown core and to bring families together to enjoy the advent of the holiday season.
Silver and Snowflake art contest winners announced

Each year, the teen board of the Carson City Library chooses a theme to coincide with the Christmas holidays. This year’s theme was “A Novel Christmas,” asking children to draw what Christmas would look like in their favorite novels.
