Catmandu is excited to announce the purchase of our facility at 1829 Brown Street in Carson City. After 4 years of providing a cage-free shelter, adoptions, spay and neuter and rescue services for northern Nevada’s cats and kittens, we are now a permanent part of Carson City and the surrounding communities.

If you’re anything like me, there are still plenty of last-minute preparations for the holiday. Luckily the shops and businesses around Carson City are there with open arms. Find something one of a kind at the Carson Mall Craft Fair, drop it off at the Rainbow Girls Assembly #7 gift wrapping booth, and grab lunch while you wait. Breakfast with Santa at the Fox Brewpub serves as a toy drive for area kids and as no-fuss way to get start the day with a full belly. Read on for a weekend full of holiday happenings.

SATURDAY:

Catmandu rescues homeless and abandoned cats in the Carson City area; spays and neuters them; and provides TLC, sanctuary, food and medical care until a forever home can be found.

We’ve got a wine walk weekend coming our way, come rain, snow, or shine. This one could get a little blustery; there’s a storm moving in. I’m just grateful that Mother Nature waited until after the parade and trick-or-treat night to send us some winter.

Some weekends are pretty cut and dry, just a few things to choose among. This, however, is not one of those weekends. High-flying, death-defying action takes over the Minden Airport as the Aviation Roundup Air Show takes to the skies. Pasta-lovers won’t want to miss the Eldorado Great Italian Festival in downtown Reno. Carson City’s monthly Downtown Wine Walk gets a dose of nostalgia as the Western Airstream Convention sets up shop and welcomes the curious.

Northern Nevada is filled with very different people with a wide variety of interests. I strive to make sure that my things-to-do lists reflect the many options available to you. Today, for example, you’ll find a fundraiser for Catmandu, the monthly meeting of the fly fishing club, some country line dancing, jazz and poetry, and a walk along the historic Blue Line Trail. No two Tuesdays are alike (or Wednesdays or Thursdays, for that matter), so it’s always worth checking out. Now that we are moving into autumn, the activities in Carson City change like the leaves.

Come join us at Chilis for lunch, dinner and eveything in between. Chilis give back day for Catmandu on Tuesday, Sept 12th, 11am to 10pm. Chilis will donate 20% back to Catmandu's sanctuary. Help us help felines in our area. Just show the flyer to your wait staff and let them know you are there to support Catmandu.

Mark your calendars! Print or save this flyer and take it to Chili’s in Carson City on Tuesday, Sept. 12 between 11 a.m. and 10 p.m. Enjoy a delicious meal, drinks and dessert and Chili’s will donate a portion of the proceeds to Catmandu. You must show the flyer in order for Catmandu to receive proceeds.

It’s almost like Christmas Day for some of us locals: the long awaited Taste of Downtown has finally arrived. Food, drink, live music, rubbing elbows with friends and neighbors, and a new wine-tasting add-on make this one of the best parties of the year. The morning brings an unparalleled opportunity: you’ve got one chance to walk, run, or bike right down the middle of the freeway before the new bypass is open to vehicle traffic alone. Grab your favorite four-legged friend and head to Adele’s: Dining for Dog Town is a delicious way to help out this amazing rescue organization.

Kitten Adoption Day is Saturday, July 22 from noon to 4 p.m. at Michael Hohl Honda in Carson City. Catmandu is partnering with Honda to help disadvantaged cats and kittens find their FURever homes.

CATMANDU is in desperate need of foster homes for bottle feeding kittens that require around-the-clock care. We also need foster homes for adult and special needs cats. Provisions supplied if needed. Fosters provide the special care needed to help kittens survive as well as an avenue to healthy human/feline contact for successful adoptions. Holy moly, it’s going to be a busy weekend: busy and gorgeous out. A bowling tournament and the Comstock Shootout Soccer tournament have the hotels and motels busting at the seams. Celebrate Earth Day with Muscle Powered by making a small piece of Carson City that much cleaner; the trash meets at 8 a.m. and leaves you plenty of time to enjoy the day. Rummage and book sales, live music, a fun run and a half-marathon, comedy and so much more await you. Check out the list for all the ways to embrace the sunshine.

Less than a year ago, Catmandu was facing a financial/volunteer crisis and on the verge of closing forever. Thanks to the support of caring people in our community, we've been able to stay open and continue helping homeless cats and kittens.

We currently have several opportunities available including: daily cleaning and cat care; socializing; assisting with tours and adoptions on Friday, Saturday and/or Sunday; social media; transporting cats to the vet for spay/neuter; and various office chores.

Touched By Angels gift shop is selling hand made cat toys to raise money for Catmandu cat rescue. Check out this beautiful store at their new location at 205 East John Street. Purchase a large crochet dangling cat toy for $5 or a small one for $3. 100% of the proceeds will go to help the cats at Catmandu!

I hope you got your fill of naps last weekend because this weekend is chock full of fun to be had for all. You can Wine Walk until you Holiday Crawl downtown. Take your pick of craft shows in town. Kids won’t want to miss the Santa Train at the State Railroad Museum or one of the two performances of ‘The Peanutcracker’ at the Community Center. Whether you’d like to spend the days indoors or out, there is something for all ages in the Carson City area this weekend.

There will be a free Kitty Adoption Day on Saturday, Dec. 3 from 12-4 p.m. at Michael Hohl Honda in Carson City.

Catmandu is partnering with Honda to help disadvantaged cats and kittens find their FURever homes. Catmandu is a Carson City non-profit cat and kitten rescue that provides a homey, cage-free environment to help them feel safe.

The organization teaches the felines to love and trust people again with hopes of finding the right people to adopt them. Catmandu receives no government funding, relying solely on volunteers and the local community for donations.

Catmandu- Cat Adoption Center and Sanctuary, sends a heartfelt "Thank You" to CASI for making our organization the beneficiary of your 2016 5K9 Fun Run/Walk.

It isn't every day you find a dog willing to do something for a cat.

But that's exactly what happened Sunday morning at Riverview Park off East Fifth Street in Carson City when dozens of canines and their humans participated in CASI's annual 5K9 Run/Walk.

Whoa doggy, what a weekend. Dayton Valley Days, the Steampunk Ball and Parade in Virginia City, and the Western Heritage Festival at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park are just the tip of the iceberg. Whether it’s in Carson City, or just over the hill in one of our neighboring counties, you’ll find something fun to do. Read on.
