Carson City School District meeting to discuss Pre-K, graduations, budget, and more

The Carson City School District will be holding its upcoming School Board meeting Tuesday, May 28 in the Sierra Room of the Community Center, located at 851 E. William Street, beginning at 6 p.m.

Recently, several CHS freshman Biology classes had the opportunity to work with fourth graders from Empire Elementary in Carson City. Students learned about conservation, the water cycle, and the Carson River watershed. CHS students, trained by the River Wranglers conservation group, and on a very windy day, met up with Empire Elementary students at Baily Pond.

Carson City School District recognizes 22 with Distinguished Student Awards

The Carson City School District took time at the School Board meeting Tuesday night to recognize 22 students with the “Distinguished Student Award.” The student winners were selected by administrators and recognized in pairs from their respective schools as having specific qualities, skills and characteristics that distinguished them.

Seventh-grade science students from Ashley Killeen’s class at Carson Middle School in Carson City completed a donation drive today that benefits foster children in rural Nevada.

Carson City HOSA students compete in state competition, take home 6 chapter awards

CARSON CITY — A total of 93 Career and Technical Education (CTE) and HOSA (Future Health Professionals) students competed in the Nevada State Leadership Conference held at the Rio in Las Vegas March 18-20.

There were a total of 74 students from Carson High School (CHS), 6 from Pioneer High School (PHS) and 13 from Carson Middle School (CMS). More than 1,000 students from across the state of Nevada competed in more than 40 medical competition events.

Professionals help middle school students connect learning to real-life experiences

Dr. Lesli Hewitt-Spears, DVM, owner of Quail Ridge Animal Hospital in South Carson City, presented to approximately 250 Carson Middle School students about careers involving the care of animals.

This engagement is part of the Carson City School District Work-Based Learning continuum. Work-Based Learning (WBL) is a statutory mandate for all schools under NRS 389.167.

Three more Carson City teachers earn National Board Certification

The Carson City School District is pleased to announce three more teachers earned certification from the National Board of Professional Teaching Standards. The NBPTS is widely considered to be the highest professional recognition for educators and includes a 5 percent pay increase in acknowledgement of accomplished teaching.
