Carson City weather: Weekend rain and snow gives way to systems through Christmas week

A weather system will pass through the area late tonight and Saturday with mountain snow and a mix of rain and snow around Carson City, according to the National Weather Service.

The weather pattern will be relatively modest compared to the ones headed into the region next week that will bring rain, snow and the potential for a white Christmas around Carson City.

Carson City Weather: Winter Storm Warning for the region

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for the Greater Lake Tahoe region. Remaining in effect until 10pm tonight, expect heavy snow through 7pm with accumulations reaching two to three inches per hour in some areas. The forecast is is calling for 12 to 20 inches of snow above 7000 feet, and 8-12 inches below (Carson City is listed at an elevation of 4,802 feet.

Carson City Weather: Rain and snow by week's end

Monday and Tuesday is going to warm up a little bit with the mercury hitting 60 degrees by Wednesday.

Don’t get too excited for warmer temperatures though, as a storm system is expected to arrive by Thursday, bringing with it rain and wind for Carson City, and several feet of snow in the Sierra.

Expect highs temps to reach the low 40’s by Friday with our low temperature around 20 degrees, and with it a good chance at snow showers going into Saturday where we will greet another partly cloudy weather pattern.

Carson City fire and rescue crews responded Thursday afternoon to a report of a two-vehicle accident up Spooner in the westbound lane of Highway 50. The accident was reported at 3:52 p.m.

Carson City wakes to snow; showers to last through Tuesday

Carson City residents were greeted to about an inch of snow that fell overnight. A Winter Weather Advisory issued through the National Weather Service in Reno lasts until noon Monday.

In this storm, up to 3 inches of snow was expected above 5,000 feet with 1 to 2 inches on the valley floor, especially in Carson City, Dayton and Gardnerville.

Windy conditions prompt Red Flag Warning for region; fall weather returns by weekend

Weather changes are headed our way with breezy conditions today followed by a cool down over the weekend, the National Weather Service reports.

A gusty weather front moving through the region has prompted the weather service to issue a Red Flag Warning today for Carson City and much of Western Nevada and along the Eastern Sierra until about 8 p.m.

With dry air moving in prior to the front's arrival and gusts from 35 to 45 mph, fire weather conditions will become critical. Humidity is expected to be between 10 to 18 percent.

Heat wave continues Sunday in Carson City, weather service advises precautions

Carson City can expect another scorcher Sunday after hitting 102 Saturday, according to the National Weather Service.

Strong high pressure will remain over western Nevada today, bringing very hot temperatures with new record highs possible. Highs across the western Nevada valleys will climb to 102 to 108, with highs of 85 to 95 in the Sierra. The anticipated high temperature for Sunday in Carson City is 103.

Fog through Carson City and northwestern Nevada could impact morning commute

Recent rainfall and clearing skies may allow areas of fog to develop across Carson City, Carson Valley and Lake Tahoe through Thursday morning.
The National Weather Service in Reno reports visibility could drop below one mile with a few areas of dense fog and visibility below 1/4 of a mile early Thursday morning. Fog will begin to burn off after 8 a.m., and may linger in a few valleys until 11 a.m.

Thunderstorms and Red Flag Warning for Northern Nevada

The National Weather Service in Reno reports a Red Flag Warning within Carson City and other areas of Northern and Western Nevada. This warning indicates that critical fire conditions may occur because of the harsh lightening that will follow up during tonight’s weather, along with light showers. The affected area for this kind of danger is within the west central portion of the Nevada Basin and range. The unstable weather is expected to last through Saturday.

Gusty winds to continue for Carson City through tonight

High winds continue to whip through Carson City this afternoon, with a gust reaching 53 mph recorded so far in the capital city, according to CarsonWeather.com.

A wind advisory continues through 11 tonight as southwest gusts of up to 70 mph are possible in wind prone areas and gusts between 35 to 55 mph for areas along Highway 395, Highway 50 and Interstate 80, according to the National Weather Service in Reno.

Wind advisory for Carson City; winter storm warning for Sierra

Gusty winds and rain will develop early this morning for the Carson City region, prompting the National Weather Service in Reno to issue a wind advisory through 5 p.m. this afternoon.

The storm looks as though it will be heaviest in areas outside of Carson City with a winter storm warning for Lake Tahoe and the Sierra and a high wind warning for areas east and south of Carson City, especially in Mono, Mineral and southern Lyon counties, according to CarsonWeather.com.

Rain expected to linger in Carson City and Sierra

Rain and much cooler temperatures have descended over the region.
Storm totals on Sunday afternoon in Carson City were at .17", with significant chance of more through at least midweek.
This rain event broke a rather lengthy dry spell of 54 days without precipitation.
