A powerful spring storm moving into the Sierra, Carson City and western Nevada regions will bring drenching rains, gusty winds and the potential for river flooding through Sunday, according to the National Weather Service.

With March now a memory, all attention weather wise this first week of April turns to a spring storm expected to arrive in the Carson City and Sierra region Friday that forecasters say will bring gusty winds, heavy rain and the potential for flooding along creeks, streams and rivers.

The second wave of winter storms will arrive in Carson City and Sierra regions Thursday night, bringing snow levels down to the valley floors through at least Saturday, prompting the National Weather Service to issue a Winter Storm Watch.

Some light snowfall arrived in Carson City early Thursday evening, dropping temperatures and bringing some accumulation along the foothill roadways by commute time.

A storm system will continue to move through the Carson City and Sierra regions Monday, bringing cold air, wind and snow that will likely produce icy conditions to area roads, according to the National Weather Service.

The remaining days of February for the Carson City region will bring temperatures below seasonal averages, breezy conditions, light snow with the potential for travel impacts Monday as a more potent storm is expected to move into the region, according to the National Weather Service.

Another storm system is expected to bring widespread light to moderate snow throughout the Carson City, valley and Sierra regions Thursday, prompting the National Weather Service to issue a Winter Weather Advisory.

Much of Northern Nevada and Eastern California will be dealing with frigid temperatures and lake effect snow in areas across the region over the next few days, the National Weather Service in Reno reports.

The snow may fly around Carson City tonight into Thursday if the current forecast holds up. The National Weather Service has issued both a Winter Weather Advisory and Wind Advisory for much of the region.

A fast moving weather system is on track to bring windy conditions and rain to the Carson City region Wednesday into Thursday, with moderate to heavy snow in the Sierra and a chance for a couple of inches on the valley floors.

A winter storm will provide the potential for strong and damaging winds beginning Thursday into Thursday night, prompting the National Weather Service to issue a High Wind Watch for Carson City and much of the western Nevada region.

A layer of fog swept over much of the Carson City region Tuesday morning as a split weather system moves into the region, bringing some snow to the southern Sierra crest and a rain and fog combination at Lake Tahoe and in the valleys.

After a mostly dry December for Carson City and the Lake Tahoe region, a change appears to be on the way that may bring snow to the Sierra and isolated rain showers into the valleys by the end of the week and possibly beyond.

A High Wind Warning is underway for the region as Carson City braces for a fairly quick moving winter storm that is expected to bring 50 to 60 mph wind gusts followed by accumulating snow along the valley floors and 8 to 10 inches above 7,000 feet.

A potent Pacific storm will move into the Carson City region beginning Saturday night bringing gusty winds, rain and mountain snow, according to the National Weather Service.

This Thanksgiving week will bring partly to mostly sunny skies and dry conditions for the Carson City region, according to the National Weather Service. Those traveling for the holiday can expect much of the same throughout the West with some rain in the Pacific Northwest.

UPDATE 2:20PM: A Red Flag Warning issued earlier this morning has been canceled due to arriving precipitation. A High Wind Warning remains in effect until 4 a.m. Thursday. A Flood Watch was issued Wednesday afternoon for the Carson City region, western Nevada and Lake Tahoe.

The National Weather Service in Reno advises that isolated to widely scattered thunderstorms have begun to develop Tuesday afternoon through the Western Nevada basin and range into Carson City. Lightning strikes were being reported throughout the area as well as rain showers in Carson City.

High pressure will continue to provide unseasonably hot temperatures through Tuesday with areas of wildfire smoke and haze and a chance of afternoon thunderstorms, according to the National Weather Service in Reno.

Showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop Tuesday and Wednesday across the Sierra and portions of western Nevada, according to the National Weather Service.

With temperatures expected to soar past 100 Wednesday and Thursday, the National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Warning for Carson City and much of western and northern Nevada.

While Carson City has been spared thus far of severe thunderstorms, other parts of the region have not, experiencing rain, hail and gusty winds extending into Lyon, Churchill and Washoe counties and eastern Nevada Monday and Tuesday.
