Carson City will mark its 25th year of being a Tree City USA member by hosting a tree planting ceremony at Mills Park on Friday, April 26.

The Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space department welcomes all community members to celebrate with us as we plant a new tree in Mills Park and read Mayor Bob Crowell's proclamation. The event runs from 4 to 5:30 p.m.

An Earth Day Celebration of Pollinators is set for April 28, 2019 at the historic Foreman-Roberts House Museum in Carson City. This will be a welcoming event for children and families seeking to learn more about the Earth and value of conserving resources.

Every Tuesday evening, 5:30 to dusk, the Clear Creek Bowmen host its Tuesday Night Archery Shoots at the Centennial Park Archery Range in Carson City.

Pollinators, like honey bees, bumble bees, and monarch butterflies, are in serious need of quality habitat in northern Nevada. If you’d like to be a part of this awesome community garden that will be a haven for these important species, we’d love your help!

Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space will be raking and picking out the shrubbery to make room for spring planting, so make sure to bring water, sunscreen, and comfy clothes. Gloves and snacks will be provided. The event is from 9 a.m. to noon. Click on flier for more details.

The Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space Department will host a “Watershed Walk” hiking tour this Saturday, March 9 beginning at 1 p.m. at Riverview Park.

The Board of Supervisors will hold its next meeting on March 7, beginning at 8:30 a.m. in the Sierra Room of the Carson City Community Center, located at 851 East William Street.

CARSON CITY — Carson High School will host a Division 1 Signing Ceremony for two student athletes in the gym at 11 a.m. this Friday, January 25. Jill Beglin will be signing with St. Johns University for Golf and Abby Pradere will sign with the University of San Francisco for Track.

The Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space staff have been busy bees (nod to Carson becoming Nevada’s first Bee City) and now the community has the opportunity to vote on their favorite names for three facilities.

The Carson City School District welcomes two new school board members: Lupe Ramirez, District 1, and Richard Varner, District 4. Ramirez and Varner were accompanied by Stacie Wilke-McCulloch, District 3, and Don Carine, District 6, at the Carson City Court House Monday, Jan. 7, as all four took their oaths of office and were sworn in as elected city officials.

Carson City Parks and Recreation staff met Tuesday with the Eagle Valley Disc Golf Association to identify the remaining work tasks to complete the Disc Golf Course Complex Project, according to Vern Krahn, senior park planner.

Robbie Sikes is the superintendent of the Empire Ranch Golf Course, and he is sick and tired of geese.

“On any given day when I get in, there are at least a thousand geese out on the greens,” said Sikes. “I’ve tried everything. The repellent doesn’t seem to do anything. People said get a dog to chase them, but I’ve got a lab who chases them every morning and they only fly up in the air and land in the ponds.”

The Wungnema House is located on the east side of Mills Park across from Carson High School. It was built by a family of skilled Hopi stonemasons shortly after World War II and served as the family’s home until the early 1970s.

This past Saturday, Nov. 3, a small yet passionate group hiked the Carson River and Mexican Ditch Trail while learning about “Leave No Trace.” This environmental recreation practice consists of the following seven principles:

On Wednesday, October 17th, 2018, River Wranglers and Carson City Parks, Recreation & Open Space (CCPROS) partnered with Carson City's Pioneer High school to wrap cottonwoods at Riverview Park.
