The snow has finally stopped falling and now it’s time to go play in it. What’s on your weekend fun list: snowmen and skiing or a toasty fire with a good book? BAC Stand Up Comedy Showcase and Open Mic

Come out and enjoy an evening with some of Northern Nevada’s best stand-up comics! The Brewery Arts Center is hosting a Stand-Up Comedy Showcase on Saturday, January 21 at 8 pm (doors at 7:30) at the Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall, located at 511 W. I hope everyone enjoyed the few hours of sunshine Wednesday, because we’re in for it now. Hopefully, the snow won’t cause as much flooding. I feel compelled to include the disclaimer that all of the following events are subject to change: this storm has the potential to wreak some havoc, so stay safe out there. Kids with cabin fever will enjoy story time at the Carson Library. Adults, get out of the house and enjoy some live music at Living the Good Life or Sassafras. Local McDonald’s restaurants hope to see you this evening: a fundraiser for the family of Ashley Bursey runs from 4 p.m.

After a brief pause in the rain yesterday, the storm has returned. I write this list with trepidation, as localized flooding is still affecting homes and businesses around town. Everything on this list is subject to cancellation. It’s back to school for the kids of Lyon County and Carson. Jacks Valley Elementary is closed, but all other Minden/Gardnerville students are headed back. Stay safe out there, and thank you to all the city and state staff, volunteers, and good neighbors that are working hard to keep the damage to a minimum.

Wild Horse Children's Theater to hold auditions for 'Annie, Jr.'

Wild Horse Children’s Theater will be holding auditions for the musical “Annie, Junior!” Auditions for this production, ages 5-15, will be held at the Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall on Thursday, January 12 from 4-7:00 p.m. and Saturday, January 14 from 10 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Callbacks are Saturday, January 14th, after auditions. Carson City Classic Cinema Club presents 'Beat the Devil' with Humphrey Bogart

Trick or treat, Carson City. Little ghouls and goblins will be hitting the streets for the annual tradition, so please drive carefully. Avoid the chill by hitting up the Carson Mall or Carson Library for goodies. The Governor will be handing out candy after 5 p.m.; you may want to start your west side visit with our Downtown Business Association’s Candy Crawl. Virginia City’s Goblin Parade is followed by trick or treating down ‘C’ Street. In Minden, don’t miss the annual Trick or Treat Safety Street at the CVIC Hall. Adults can enjoy Halloween Parties at Crossroad’s Lounge or the Blue Bull.

Carson Creepy Short Horror Film screening and judging this Saturday

The screening and judging ceremony for the 2016 Carson Creepy Short Horror Film contest will be help this Saturday, October 29th, at the Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall in Carson City. Competitors were given one week to make a short horror film between 5 and 8 minutes long.

I’m usually a lover of sunny days, but right now I say bring on the rain. The moisture is a welcome help to our heroic firefighters in Lake Tahoe and Washoe Valley. Because of the wet weather and the recent fires, some activities have been postponed: most notably the Advocates to End Domestic Violence’s Annual Light After Dark Run. There are still plenty of things to occupy your time, but the weather may force more cancellations.

Local candidates can be found at the BAC Performance Hall in the first of three voters' forums. It's hard to miss the new 'Home Means Nevada' mural on the side of CAL Ranch at Winnie Lane; the opening ceremony for our newest piece of art is at 2 p.m.
