What a week. Granted, it was a short one, but school got out for the summer and we saw the weather go from a wintery chill to summery hot. Get your early primary vote in this afternoon, then stick around for the Artist Reception for the new exhibit in the CCAI Gallery upstairs in the Courthouse Building. Live music can be found at our bigger casinos, and a dj will keep you on the dance floor at Jimmy G’s, Alatte in the Carson Nugget, and Living the Good Life. Sassafras welcomes Bryan McPherson to the stage at 8 pm; you’ll want to get there earlier to take full advantage of their menu.

Tibetan monks visit Carson City

Tibetan monks from the Gaden Shartse Monastery are on a two-year tour and will be visiting the Brewery Arts Center in Carson City and Minden's O2 Wellness & Yoga Studio to share their unique and deeply spiritual culture of Tibetan Buddhism.

Carson City candidates talk turkey at Tuesday night forum

Candidates for Carson City Mayor and State Assembly District 40 addressed a nearly full house of voters at the Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall Wednesday night during a candidate forum sponsored by the Carson City Chamber of Commerce.

The candidates participated in a structured debate moderated by Nevada Appeal Editor Adam Trumble.

As a group, they were asked questions on specific topics and each given two minutes to provide a response.

It’s a big day for the stage in Carson City. Under the lights of the Performance Hall at the Brewery Art Center, the four primary candidates for Carson City Mayor and for State Assembly District 40 will participate in a forum hosted by the Chamber of Commerce. Mile High Summer Jazz Camp offered in Carson City

Mile High Jazz Band Association, in cooperation with Carson Middle School presents a one-week Jazz Camp with sessions for middle- and high-school musicians, June 6-10, in the band room at Carson Middle School, 1140 W. King St. in Carson City.

A new exhibit has hit town. Over the weekend, the Nevada Artists Association welcomed new works for its Imagination show. Take a moment and explore all the downtown area galleries: the Community Building by City Hall, the gallery upstairs of in the Courthouse, the Sierra Room in the Community Center, and the walls of the Visitor Center. Grab your cowboy boots and learn to line dance at Carson Lanes. Sassafras welcomes Judith and Rocky to the stage for a jazz jam as fun and funky as their menu.

It's Your City: Area Filmmakers sought for 2016 City Wide Short Film Competition

This week's It's Your City with host Cortney Bloomer features Laura Main of Wired Wednesday Digital Artists. The two discuss the upcoming 2016 City Wide Short Film Competition, an annual event for budding Carson City area filmmakers.

The 2016 City Wide Short Film competition kicks off on Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at noon. Up-and-coming filmmakers are urged to enter and make a movie in over the course of one week. See the video below.

Listening to author and education innovator Milton Chen on Wednesday morning talk about the importance of planning for the future, Carson High School junior Caitlyn Lee, 17, reviewed her own plans.

While she has a passion for performing, she knows it can be hard to pay the bills singing and dancing, so she plans to pursue a degree in business finance or management from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

Tribute to Chile Bartels, a Kid Set Apart

Chile Irwin Bartels was born on March 17, 1997 to Amy Jo and Jason Bartels. He was the middle child sandwiched between his two sisters, Wednesday and Willow, and the beloved grandson of Colleen Mortimer, Marshall Bartels, Judy and John Procaccini.

Chile was a faithful son and was at his family’s side whenever they needed him. Chile’s BIG spirit and personality could barely be contained by his six foot, four-inch frame. He had a special gift for making his sisters laugh, and for teasing them unmercifully. The three of them loved sharing movie and Mario Kart marathons.
