Dick Campagni and Carson City Toyota Scion is challenging the Carson City community to help the Boys and Girls Clubs of Western Nevada. Carson City Toyota Scion will match all donations made to the Boys & Girls Club up to $10,000.

Increasing the Joy in Carson City!

Twenty five percent of Carson City children live at or below the poverty line. Increasing the Joy is making the holiday season more joyful by distributing gifts to these children, who may not have a traditional Christmas like many of us. Last year Increasing the Joy gave out 500 gifts and for 2012 we've set our goals even higher at 700 gifts. We believe that every child deserves joy.

Boys & Girls Club Auction and Worlds Greatest BBQ

Join 600 of your closest and most influential friends and raise money to support opertations of the Boys & Girls Club of Western Nevada, Carson City Branch. It's the Boys & Girls Club Auction and Worlds Greatest BBQ from 4-8 p.m., Pony Express Pavilion, Mills Park. More than 200 silent aution items, 25 live items and of course the Best BBQ in the area, to be prepared by Carson City BBQ. All you can eat and drinks included in the price of admission, $100 per person or $1,000 for a table of 10. Music by the Craing Fletcher Band.  Sponsored once more by Bodines.

Boys & Girls Club Feast

As part of the Panda Cares community support program, Panda Express of Reno fed 250 kids in conjunction with the Carson City Library Summer Reading Program. The program wraps up with an Ice Cream Party Saturday at the west end of Mills Park from noon to 2 p.m.

Boys and Girls clubs receive grants to promote healthy eating and active lifestyle

The Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Foundation announced that the Boys & Girls Clubs of Las Vegas (Las Vegas, Nev.) and Elko Boys & Girls Club (Elko, Nev.) will both receive a $10,000 start-up grant to implement Triple Play programming. Additionally, Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows (Reno, Nev.) and Boys & Girls Club of Western Nevada (Carson, Nev.) will receive $5,000 Triple Play Healthy Habits grants to provide programming focused on teaching the importance of healthy eating habits and being physically active.

Open House at Carson City AAA on Friday to benefit Special Olympics

In the spirit of teamwork and goodwill, AAA continues its steadfast tradition to civic involvement by hosting on May 18 an open house designed to benefit Special Olympics in its south Carson City office.

The event, which is slated from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., includes a silent auction, special insurance counseling, travel advice as well as ample refreshments. Proceeds from the silent auction with items ranging from a glider plane ride to a round of golf will be earmarked for the Special Olympics of Nevada.

Today marks the opening of filling for this year's election for Carson City Justice of the Peace, and the current holder of that office John Tatro was the first to file.

Boys and Girls Club Lake Tahoe Golf Classic set for October

The 18th annual Boys & Girls Club of Lake Tahoe Golf Tournament, an annual favorite of locals and visitors, is set for Monday, Oct. 17 at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course. The entire $195 entry fee goes directly to the Boys & Girls Club to continue its work with local children. Last year the BGCLT raised over $35,000 with this year’s goal to break $45,000.

Armon Johnson Future Stars Basketball Camp

NBA player Armon Johnson, who grew up in Reno and was a University of Nevada basketball superstar, is hosting his “Future Stars Basketball Camp” next week (August 9-11) at the Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows in Reno. The camp is geared toward boys and girls in 3rd to 12th grade.

Boys & Girls Clubs of Dayton Town Hall Meeting

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Dayton will announce its upcoming summer program and fundraiser during a town hall meeting on Wednesday, May 18 beginning at 6 p.m., at Dayton High School.
Boys and Girls Club staff also want to update the community on our progress and need for Committee volunteers and support. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend.

Les Schwab's Making a Difference Car Show and Shine

An all-vehicle show and shine is set for Sunday, May 1 at Les Schwab Tire Center, 3219 North Carson Street from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The Show and Shine, which features music, food venders and a raffle is called "Les Schwab Making a Difference" and is presented by Capital Classic Productions.

McCall Realty of Lake Tahoe Lends a Hand to Families, Victims of Violence

In the spring of 2010, McCall Realty promised $20,000 in donations to be shared across five non-profit agencies benefitting the youth of South Shore. Included among the organizations is the South Lake Tahoe Women’s Center, dedicated to improving the emotional, social, and economic condition of women and families in our community through prevention, intervention and treatment programs and services that address domestic violence, sexual assault, child abuse and basic needs.

McCall Realty gives Tahoe youth a fighting chance

In 2010, McCall Realty of South Lake Tahoe pledged to donate $20,000 of annual profits to five non-profit organizations benefitting the youth of South Shore. Owner Thane McCall is fulfilling that promise by delivering final contributions to the South Lake Tahoe Police Activities League (PAL), which will use the funds for after-school programs including a boxing club, bike club, recreation outing group and various sports teams.

Board of Supervisors to look at property tax increase tomorrow

I received a call from the Builders Association of Western Nevada this afternoon about a big property tax increase the Carson City Board of Supervisors is going to vote on tomorrow.

The funny thing is, I read through the agenda last week and didn't see it. But it was easy to miss. It is number 15 on the agenda, and the language used gives very little clue as to what it is (the document is attached below).

Gaming Alliance, Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority give 20K to area nonprofits

As a part of an ongoing initiative to support area non-profits, the Lake Tahoe Gaming Alliance and the Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority donated $20,000 among four charities, Friday, Dec. 3 at Lakeside Inn & Casino.

Christmas Cheer received $10,000; Tahoe Youth and Family Services $5,000; South Lake Tahoe Women’s Center $3,000 and the Boys & Girls Club of Lake Tahoe $2,000.

American Century, LIVESTRONG deliver to South Tahoe nonprofits

Nineteen South Lake Tahoe area non-profit organizations got an early holiday surprise Thursday when more than $100,000 was delivered by LIVESTRONG and the American Century Championship.

The Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority board of directors announced the distribution of $102,377 in contributions on Thursday, Nov. 11.
