Increasing the Joy in Carson City!

Increasing the Joy is making the holiday season more joyful by distributing gifts to these children, who may not have a traditional Christmas like many of us. Last year Increasing the Joy gave out 500 gifts and for 2012 we've set our goals even higher at 700 gifts. We believe that every child deserves joy.

It's the Boys & Girls Club Auction and Worlds Greatest BBQ from 4-8 p.m., Pony Express Pavilion, Mills Park. More than 200 silent aution items, 25 live items and of course the Best BBQ in the area, to be prepared by Carson City BBQ. As part of the Panda Cares community support program, Panda Express of Reno fed 250 kids in conjunction with the Carson City Library Summer Reading Program. The program wraps up with an Ice Cream Party Saturday at the west end of Mills Park from noon to 2 p.m.

Boys and Girls clubs receive grants to promote healthy eating and active lifestyle
Submitted by admin on Fri, 06/15/2012 - 6:52amThe Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Foundation announced that the Boys & Girls Clubs of Las Vegas (Las Vegas, Nev.) and Elko Boys & Girls Club (Elko, Nev.) will both receive a $10,000 start-up grant to implement Triple Play programming. Additionally, Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows (Reno, Nev.) and Boys & Girls Club of Western Nevada (Carson, Nev.) will receive $5,000 Triple Play Healthy Habits grants to provide programming focused on teaching the importance of healthy eating habits and being physically active.
Open House at Carson City AAA on Friday to benefit Special Olympics
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Thu, 05/17/2012 - 12:26pmIn the spirit of teamwork and goodwill, AAA continues its steadfast tradition to civic involvement by hosting on May 18 an open house designed to benefit Special Olympics in its south Carson City office.
The event, which is slated from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., includes a silent auction, special insurance counseling, travel advice as well as ample refreshments. Proceeds from the silent auction with items ranging from a glider plane ride to a round of golf will be earmarked for the Special Olympics of Nevada.

Submitted by editor on Fri, 09/23/2011 - 4:44pmThe 18th annual Boys & Girls Club of Lake Tahoe Golf Tournament, an annual favorite of locals and visitors, is set for Monday, Oct. 17 at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course. The entire $195 entry fee goes directly to the Boys & Girls Club to continue its work with local children. Last year the BGCLT raised over $35,000 with this year’s goal to break $45,000.
Armon Johnson Future Stars Basketball Camp

Owner Thane McCall is fulfilling that promise by delivering final contributions to the South Lake Tahoe Police Activities League (PAL), which will use the funds for after-school programs including a boxing club, bike club, recreation outing group and various sports teams.
Board of Supervisors to look at property tax increase tomorrow

The funny thing is, I read through the agenda last week and didn't see it. But it was easy to miss. It is number 15 on the agenda, and the language used gives very little clue as to what it is (the document is attached below).
Gaming Alliance, Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority give 20K to area nonprofits
Submitted by editor on Fri, 12/17/2010 - 5:57amAs a part of an ongoing initiative to support area non-profits, the Lake Tahoe Gaming Alliance and the Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority donated $20,000 among four charities, Friday, Dec. 3 at Lakeside Inn & Casino.
Christmas Cheer received $10,000; Tahoe Youth and Family Services $5,000; South Lake Tahoe Women’s Center $3,000 and the Boys & Girls Club of Lake Tahoe $2,000.
American Century, LIVESTRONG deliver to South Tahoe nonprofits

The Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority board of directors announced the distribution of $102,377 in contributions on Thursday, Nov. 11.
