The Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Nevada is aiming high for the future. The Club has brought on a new chief professional officer, turned earth on its new Carson City teen center in October and partnered with a local marketing firm to create a new website and marketing plan.

Carson City Mayor Bob Crowell announced his intention to run for a third term this morning at a meeting of minority business leaders at La Posada Real restaurant.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Nevada is pleased to announce the return of their annual fundraiser, “Annual Auction and BBQ Luau” scheduled for Sunday at the Marv Teixeira Pavilion at Mills Park in Carson City. All proceeds from this event will benefit the Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Nevada.

Jimmy John's February fundraiser generates cash for 10 Boys and Girls Club memberships

​​​Jimmy John's owner Ken Yzurdiaga and Manager Joe Lash present a check to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Nevada. Accepting the check were Laurie Gorris, Chief Professional Officer, and Cliff Sorensen, Board Member.

Jimmy John's held a community night fundraiser, Feb. 9 2015 and donated 20 percent of all proceeds. This donation will cover the membership fee for 10 kids for the entire year, allowing them to receive academic help, life skills programs, and, most importantly, adult mentoring during any out of school times at the Club.

Dick Campagni’s Carson City Toyota Scion launches Boys and Girls Club Community Challenge

Tickets go on sale for Nevada Day Governor's Banquet

Tickets are on sale for the 4th annual Nevada Day Governor's Banquet, Oct. 28 at the Grand Sierra Resort. The event will feature Gov. Brian Sandoval, senators Harry Reid and Dean Heller, Congressman Mark Amodei and Lt. Gov. Brian Krolicki. The event benefits The Boys & Girls Club of Nevada.

Tickets are $60 per person, or a reserved table for 10 is just $500. Doors open at 6 p.m. The evening also includes table service dinner, silent and live auctions, and a Nevada 150 birthday cake and cake cutting ceremony.

Statewide Nevada 150 events held throughout second half of September

Many celebrations are scheduled throughout the Silver State in the month of September. These Nevada 150 events celebrate all things Nevada and help bring awareness to the 150th Anniversary of Statehood. The following events are held Sept. 15 through 30.

General Motors Dealership Celebrates 30 Years in Carson City

Throughout September, Michael Hohl Motor Company will be celebrating its 30th anniversary with weekend entertainment, $5,000 in cash giveaways, along with special sale and service offers.

Michael Hohl and his wife, Karen, founded Michael Hohl Motor Company in 1984. Originally, the dealership carried four lines: Oldsmobile, Buick, Cadillac and GMC Trucks. Chevrolet was added in 2007. Michael Hohl Motor Company is the longest serving General Motors dealership in Northern Nevada and the largest full line General Motors dealership in the state.

Carson City Leadership Institute graduates class of 2014 tonight

Today is the official graduation ceremony of the Carson City Leadership Institute Class of 2014. They’ve spent 8 months of intensive study learning about Carson City and have made new friends and business acquaintances.

Friday night at the Chamber’s annual meeting, which is sold out, the class will unveil its unique and historic class project that has the souls of some very historic figures, including our founder Abram Curry, dancing on their graves.

Eddie Money Concert Benefits Boys and Girls Club, Carson Valley Branch

Eddie Money performs in TJ's Corral, the new outdoor events center at Carson Valley Inn in Minden. The show takes place Saturday, June 21, 2014 with auction and ticket proceeds to benefit the Boys & Girls Club of Western Nevada, Carson Valley Branch. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., live auction begins at 7 p.m. and show starts at 7:30 p.m.
Auction items include VIP trips for two to the 2015 Country Music Awards, Del Mar Race Track and Atlanta Falcons Game as guests of Coach Tice and more.

Dayton Historical Society hosts 'Discover Gold in Nevada, Again' a Living History Event, Saturday

The Historical Society of Dayton Valley hosts “Discover Gold in Dayton, Again,” as part of the Nevada 150th celebration, Saturday, May 17 in Old Town Dayton. Everyone is invited to come celebrate the community’s “firsts."

It is the location of Nevada’s first gold discovery which took place in 1849. It was the Silver State’s first permanent settlement, founded in 1851 and is the site of Lyon County’s first courthouse, opened in 1864. It is also the site of Nevada’s first marriage and ironically, the first divorce, as well, Docent Lauri Emerich, said. “We have a lot to celebrate.”

Boys & Girls Club receives $10k donation from Carson City Toyota

Dick Campagni's Carson City Toyota presented the Boys & Girls Club of Western Nevada with a check for $10,000 today.

"Every day we serve 600 to 800 kids, for a nominal fee, so we never charge the parents too much," said Laurie Gorris, Chief Professional Officer of the Boys & Girls Club of Western Nevada. "And they get after school programing, homework help and a meal every day and mentoring."

City National Bank gives Boys and Girls Club of Western Nevada share of community grant

The Boys & Girls Club of Western Nevada in Carson City was among 15 charitable organizations in four states to receive a portion of $15,000 from City National Bank.

The bank recently celebrated its 60th anniversary and awarded community grants to charities of choice. The bank will continue to select grants on a quarterly basis this year.

Boys and Girls Club in Carson City among agencies to sponsor USDA food program

The Boys and Girls Club of Western Nevada and the Washoe Tribe Head Start Office in Carson City are among the sponsoring agencies of the U.S. Department of Agriculture Child and Adult Care Food Program, Nevada Department of Agriculture announced Friday.

Supervisor Abowd seeks input on upcoming policy decisions before the board

With so many important issues up for discussion, this month’s walkabout Friday, Dec. 13 may be more pressing than usual, said Carson City Supervisor Karen Abowd.

Topics for this month include the proposed sales tax increase to help fund a no-kill animal shelter in Carson City, the East-North-South Corridors Project and The Boys & Girls Club of Western Nevada’s multi-use activity center, which would be a city project for use by The Boys & Girls Club, but would also provide additional space where conventions and a variety of other activities to help promote Carson City, could be conducted.

Carson City Library summer enrichment programs bridge opportunity gap for local youth

Between June 7 and August 4 the Carson City Library engaged a record breaking 2,750 youth, ages 6 – 17, in signups for the 2013 summer reading program and attendance in summer learning activities. In that time, more than 21,788 items circulated from the library’s youth collection, primarily traditional books but also e-readers like Kindles, iPads, PlayAways and PlayAway Views.
