Carson City, Douglas County offer curbside Christmas tree recycling

Stankute, 14, is one of the only girls in her council on the verge of earning her Eagle Scout rank. The Eagle Scout rank is the highest achievement attainable in the Scouts BSA program. Members who earn this rank must go through a lengthy review process and complete an Eagle Scout project.

Obituary: Daniel Leif Braafladt
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Mon, 11/18/2019 - 2:24pmDaniel Leif Braafladt died peacefully in Carson City, Nevada on Nov. 7, 2019 at the age of 62. Dan is survived by his wife Toni, his daughter Lacy, his grandkids Emmett and Reta, and his dog Bear.
He was born in Carmichael, CA to Jeane and Phil Braafladt. Dan spent a lifetime being the best type of man there is. He could fix anything. His spirit and jolly laugh made any occasion better. His love and respect for wildlife and nature were admirable. He was an avid hunter, sports lover, and was a pretty darn good shot. His wisdom, love, and long garage talks will be missed by so many.

Grab summer with both hands and go enjoy this beautiful city. The Brewery Arts Center brings Dennis Johnson and the Mississippi Ramblers to the stage for tonight’s free concert. Check out the Railroad Museum for your fill of music and antique motor cars. His illustrated talk, "Choices, Chances, and Changes," is part of CCAI’s ongoing Nevada Neighbors series and will take place at 6 p.m. at the Union restaurant, 302 W. Proctor St in Carson City.
There will be an informal reception for Salinas preceding the event at 5:30 p.m. No tickets needed; the public is cordially invited.

Many amazing opportunities are going on in the CHS school library. The CHS Library is piloting the Nevada Teacher-Librarian Evaluation framework and transitioning from a “library” to a collaborative learning commons.

Boy Scouts of America honors Northern Nevada leader Jim Rogers with Silver Buffalo award
Submitted by editor on Wed, 09/07/2016 - 12:31pmThe American Buffalo did not roam in Northern Nevada more than a century ago as the West was settled, but Nevada does lay claim to its own Silver Buffalo in 2016. That “Silver Buffalo” is Jim Rogers and the national honor was bestowed upon this Nevadan by the Boy Scouts of America at its 2016 National Annual Meeting held in San Diego.
Rogers was honored during the recent BSA National Convention in San Diego. Today, there are more than 800,000 adult volunteers in BSA, and Rogers has been an active volunteer leader for over 35 years.

The Estate of Esther Schwarzer gave the Nevada Area Council of Boy Scouts of America a check for nearly $121,000 to use for programs benefiting Scouting. Receiving identical checks were the Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Nevada and Shriner’s Children’s Hospital.

Heroism Awards presented to Carson City Scouts Jeremiah Beauford and Eli Thomas

Dozens of Scouts, Scouters and parents applauded Jeremiah Beauford and Eli Thomas as each young man received the Life Saving Award as each Scout had saved the life of his younger brother. On hand to make the special presentation was Nevada Area Council President Jeff Whitaker.
