New food items introduced at Greater Nevada Field in 2017

The Reno Aces Baseball Club and Professional Sports Catering have revamped and reinvented the menus at Greater Nevada Field in 2017, officials announced Thursday. Additional game day concepts for the 2017 season include numerous brisket and bacon options, specialty hot dogs for every opponent, and an 1868 Burger, inspired by Reno 1868 FC.

Happy birthday Nevada: How, when and where to celebrate Nevada Day 2016 events

Nevada is one of the few states that celebrate its Admission Day, and boy do we throw a party. A parade, competitions of strength and facial hair, hot air balloons, bloody marys, a carnival, pow wow, and free chili are just a few of the festivities awaiting the capital city on Saturday.

The party begins Friday this year with a ribbon cutting celebration of the 'new' downtown. The Nevada State Museum hits its 75th Anniversary this year and will have a day full of fun and surprises. Method behind the magic: Carson City Barbecue competes in Sparks

Ribs are serious business in Northern Nevada this time of year.

Well over 200,000 pounds of St. Louis style pig are trucked in to feed about 600,000 hungry rib-eaters converging upon Victorian Square in Sparks for the annual Best in the West Nugget Rib Cook Off, now in its 28th year.

Western Nevada College graduates record number

Western Nevada College graduated its largest class ever Monday. A record 556 students earned a total of 598 degrees and certificates.

In a first, 27 graduates are high school students who participated in WNC’s Jump Start College program. These students are to receive their associate degrees prior to receiving their high school diplomas.

Billboards warn Carson City of cancer risk due to processed foods

The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine — a nonprofit of 12,000 doctors — has placed two billboards warning Carson City residents that cancer-causing processed meats such as hot dogs don’t belong in school meals.

Western Nevada College: 312 make Fall 2015 Dean’s List

Western Nevada College has named 312 students to the Fall 2015 Dean’s List. For consideration to WNC’s Dean’s List, students must complete at least 12 units during the semester and accumulate a grade point average of 3.50 or higher. Honorees are:

Nevada Day tradition dishes pancakes at Governor's Mansion, Masonic lodge and Red's Old 395

A Nevada Day tradition, the annual pancake breakfast at the Governor’s Mansion is hosted by the Carson City Republican Women’s Club. Proceeds go toward scholarships of $1,000 each to two deserving seniors from Carson and Dayton High Schools.

Hot air balloons, the annual beard contest, the parade, tours of the Governor’s Mansion, and more make this time of year amazing. Students graduate from Carson City Library manufacturing program

As more manufacturing businesses have moved to Northern Nevada, including Tesla in Storey County, Kayla Homme, 22, adjusted her career focus.

“I saw that opportunity,” she said. “I think it’s something like 70 percent men, so I figured as a woman I’d have a better chance.”

Senator Square: Laptops for Everyone

All 2,300 Carson High School students will each receive a laptop during the week of Oct. 5-9 to be used at school and at home to enhance their learning opportunities. Beginning Monday at 7:45 a.m. and going throughout the day, all students will go to the library to receive their laptop. This process will be repeated again Tuesday through Thursday.

Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel has a way for parents to get their kids to look up from their screens and take in the real world at Lake Tahoe. Carson City community members flooded downtown for Taste of Downtown Saturday evening with their appetites ready to taste the delicious foods prepared by local businesses. Taste of Downtown gave guests a wide range of dinner entrees, promoted local businesses and supported Advocates to End Domestic Violence.

Carson City community members flooded downtown for Taste of Downtown, Saturday evening with their stomachs growling, ready to taste the delicious foods of local businesses. Taste of Downtown gave guests a wide range of dinner entrees, promoted local businesses and supported Advocates to End Domestic Violence.

Guests listened to eight local bands throughout the evening and tasted food and refreshments from 39 local businesses.

Capital Crossfire: Advocating for Business at the Nevada State Legislature

Join Shelly Aldean and Karl Neathammer with their guests Ray Bacon (Nevada Manufacturers Association) and Liz MacMenamin (Retail Association of Nevada) as they discuss the role of retailers and manufacturers in Nevada’s economy and their advocacy for business at the Nevada State Legislature.

Come to the Browsers Corner Book Store in Carson City to meet author Mark S. Bacon at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 8. Mr. Bacon has written for radio, TV, the web, magazines and for newspapers such as the San Francisco Chronicle.

He has written several business books, one of which was selected as best business book of the year by Library Journal, but “Death in Nostalgia City” is his first mystery novel.
