Carson High Men’s Swim Team was successful Saturday, April 15, 2017 at the Carson City Aquatic Facility in their dual meets with Reno High and Reed High. The women’s team won against Reed High and lost against Reno High.

Carson High Swim Team competed against North Valley High School, Friday, April 7, 2017 at the Carson City Aquatic Facility in Carson City. Both the men's and women's teams were successful.

MEN: Carson 217 to 13 N. Valley

WOMEN: Carson 224 to 44 N.

Youth swimmers and wrestlers from Nevada and California were hitting their strides Saturday in the middle of regional championship competitions held in Carson City this weekend.

Singlets and swimsuits will be making their way to Carson City as two regional tournaments are being hosted here this weekend.

The Governor’s Office of Energy (GOE) recently awarded $76,000 to help Carson City implement a $4.1 million project that will conserve energy and reduce the city’s operational costs.

On February 13, through CHS’ leadership class led by teacher and advisor Ann Britt, we had the privilege of having students from Efterskolen Frydensberg, a Danish boarding school, come to CHS as a part of an annual 10th grade trip to America.

Sam Chenin can't wait for his swim class to begin.

But this wasn't always the case, said his mother Sherri Chenin.

"We tried public lessons here when he was younger, before he was diagnosed, and he would be in the tot pool with two instructors and six kids," she said. "He would just let go and go under the water. He had no fear."

Celebrate a Country Christmas with Mary Kaye and the Kaye Sisters in Genoa or get your Celtic fix at the Brewery Art Center with a performance by County Clarke. I hope you got your fill of naps last weekend because this weekend is chock full of fun to be had for all. You can Wine Walk until you Holiday Crawl downtown. Take your pick of craft shows in town. Carson City Parks and Recreation Youth Programs is hosting a donation drive for Toys for Tots. We have partnered with Division of Children and Family Services here in Carson City to donate toys for the Toys for Tots program. The Ron Wood Family Resource Center here in Carson City has decided to partner with Toys for Tots to donate items as well.

The turkeys have been cooked, the dishes done, and the largest shopping weekend of the year is off and running. Show some love locally during Shop Small Business Saturday. Great little shops, restaurants, and services offer something unique for those on your gift list. Gift Certificates are never a bad way to go either: who wouldn’t want a massage, a night on the town, or maybe some music lessons? Start the day making something beautiful. The Muscle Powered Trash Mob descends upon our new downtown for some clean-up and coffee. I’m usually a lover of sunny days, but right now I say bring on the rain. The moisture is a welcome help to our heroic firefighters in Lake Tahoe and Washoe Valley. Because of the wet weather and the recent fires, some activities have been postponed: most notably the Advocates to End Domestic Violence’s Annual Light After Dark Run. There are still plenty of things to occupy your time, but the weather may force more cancellations.

The Carson Animal Services Initiative (CASI) hosted its 7th annual Pooch Plunge on Saturday. CASI provided tennis balls, extra towels and plenty of dog treats.

Carson City Parks and Recreation Youth Programs partnered with the Salvation Army to start up a school supply donation drive. Our Summer Camp children and families have now helped us fill 5-plus large bins with school supplies and backpacks.

The weekend has arrived and there are festivals everywhere. A Basque Festival and Picnic can be found in Gardnerville. Bowers Mansion hosts a Bluegrass Festival for the 31st year. Ta-Hoe Nalu Paddle Festival returns to King Beach for the weekend. The Annual Jazz and Beyond Music Festival has infiltrated the whole valley with musicians.
