I Love Carson City’s Weekend Event Summary: Aug. 27 – 28
The kids deserve some fun for surviving their first week back at school, and Carson City delivers. The first annual Northern Nevada Family Fun Day takes over Mills Park with music, a kids zone, activities, food, raffles, and much more. Check out the Bowling Blast Off at Carson Lanes for a Car Show, bowling specials, and fun. Once the sun sets, Washoe Lake State Park offers a basic astronomy lesson and some celestial viewing. Keep reading: there’s something for everyone this weekend.
SATURDAY:
- Soroptimist ‘Stroke to Help’ Golf Tournament at Silver Oak Golf Course (7am Check-in and breakfast, 8am shotgun start; 4-person California Scramble; $100 per person includes continental breakfast and barbecue lunch, raffle, prizes, on-course contests, and more)
- Muscle Powered One Hour Trash Mob: East side of the Carson River, south of Lloyd’s Bridge- meet on the east side of the Carson River off of Sierra Vista Lane (8am-9am; Gloves, trash bags, and trash pickers will be provided; please dress for the weather)
- Nevada Artists Association Art Exhibit featuring Vilma Weneck and Photography by Chas. H. McDonnell, III at the Carson Visitor Center (8am-5pm)
- Coffee and Donuts with EAA Sierra Chapter 403 at 2500 E. College Pkwy (8:30am-12pm, all welcome)
- Third and Curry Farmers Market (8:30am to 1pm; fruits, vegetables, flowers, live music, local vendors, bowl painting with Empty Bowls, and more)
Many hands make light work. Join the members of Muscle Powered during their flash ‘Trash Mob’ at 8 a.m. Just one hour can make a big difference when it comes to keeping our trails clean. Heritage Park in Gardnerville is looking for volunteers to help with irrigation and clean-up today.

Love music? Head up to Silver City for their monthly jam session at the Schoolhouse Community Center. If you love fast cars even more, then check out the annual Virginia City Ferrari Hill Climb that races along the Truck Route.

Galaxy Theater brings another movie classic to the big screen today. Rodgers and Hammerstein’s ‘The King and I’ 60th Anniversary Event plays at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.
